Infection Preventionist

PRIMARY FUNCTION

The Infection Preventionist is responsible for planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the organization’s Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Program in accordance with accreditation standards and applicable federal, state, and local regulations. This role provides subject matter expertise to ensure the organization maintains a systematic, data-driven, and organization-wide approach to infection prevention that supports patient safety, workforce safety, and continuous accreditation readiness.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Design, implement, and maintain an enterprise-wide IPC program aligned with applicable regulatory standards. Collaborate with Quality, Clinical Operations, Employee Health, Facilities, and Clinic Leaders to integrate IPC into daily operations. Develop and oversee ongoing infection prevention education for clinical and non-clinical staff. Monitor cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization practices to ensure compliance with evidence-based best practice. Collaborate with Facilities and Clinical Operations to ensure the physical environment supports infection prevention. Develop and maintain all policies pertaining to Infection Prevention and Control (IPC).

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Public Health, Epidemiology, or related field

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 5 years of experience in infection control and prevention

 

LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION

Licensed healthcare professional, RN preferred. Certification in Infection Control required.

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Subject -matter expertise in Infection Control, with the ability to continuously monitor, improve, and implement changes enterprise wide. Ability to work in a highly matrix'd role and build strong relationships with peers and clinicians. Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex projects. Proficient in data analysis, KPI tracking, and healthcare performance reporting. Ability to demonstrate behaviors that are important to the success of the organization and that support and uphold Pediatric Associates’ Mission, Vision, and Core Values Ability to work both independently and with a team. Conflict management and resolution skills Analytical skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook, as well as other computer skills A strong understanding of how to leverage data and clinical know-how in a fast-paced care delivery setting.

 

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS

May rotate working in the office and remote. This job must be U.S. based. May require occasional travel, no more than 10% of time. Ability to multitask, communicate clearly and concisely, and to work at a computer and with office technology for extended periods of time.

 

OTHER PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Vision Sense of sound Sense of touch May require sitting or standing for long periods, including stooping, bending, and stretching for files and supplies.

 

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

Ensure IPC policies and procedures are evidence-based, reviewed at least annually, and approved through the organization’s Quality governance structure. Ensure staff demonstrate competency in infection prevention practices, including hand hygiene, PPE use, isolation precautions, and safe injection practices. Escalate identified risks and trends through established governance channels. Maintain documentation required to demonstrate compliance with regulatory requirements.

Adhere to all organizational information security policies and protect all sensitive information including but not limited to ePHI and PHI (Protected Health Information) in accordance with organizational policy, Federal, State, and local regulations.
