Job Summary

\n

The Infection Preventionist 1 implements and reviews the facility's infection prevention program. They ensure standards and guidelines from professional organizations and agencies are included. They also serve as a resource for infection prevention issues for all facility personnel.

\n

The ideal candidate will have a background in Infection Prevention, Laboratory (MT, MLT or MLS), or Nursing.  Highly organized and detail oriented with a curious/investigative nature, you will at times need to determine where an infection came from.  Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, is a must.

\n

Essential Functions of the Role

\n\nImplements infection prevention strategies to prevent and control the transmission of infectious agents, applying epidemiologic values and evidence-based guidelines\nConducts on-going surveillance using Centers for Disease Control (CDC) infection criteria\nReports patients with communicable diseases to the appropriate health authority\nMonitors compliance with national standards and bodies like JC, CDC, OSHA, and FDA through observations, audits, and other methods.\nProvides education to increase employee awareness of existence of healthcare-associated infections\nParticipates in quality/performance improvement activities by assessing, monitoring, and measuring healthcare-associated infections and evaluating outcomes on a continuous basis\nPartners with teams to create, educate, and sustain evidence-based infection prevention strategies, as well as provide feedback\nParticipates in educational activities, professional meetings, and peer networking. Reviews literature to maintain current knowledge on healthcare and infection control.\nPerforms other position appropriate duties as required in a competent, professional, and courteous manner\n\n

Key Success Factors

\n\nKnowledge of theories and practices of microbiology, epidemiology, nursing, statistics, or public health\nComputer skills\nPartnership and conflict resolution\nCommunication skills, oral and written\nAbility to assist in implementation evidence-based guidelines\nAbility to assist in conducting data collection and examination, report writing, and data presentation\n\n
