Next Gen Commerce

Next Gen Commerce defines and drives the technical vision for the future of retail experiences- leading the development of digital shopping assistants, agent platforms, AR/VR interfaces, and Conversational AI capabilities that power Walmart’s next-generation commerce ecosystem.

The Group Director will be based out of IDC Bangalore office and will be responsible for defining and executing the strategy for external integrations, content generation and QA, Multi-modal, and UGCM. The leader will closely work with the US counterparts in Engineering, Product and Business areas.

What you'll do:

Key responsibilities for this role include:

Leading a team of senior engineering leaders and architects to build on external integrations that will expose Sparky, Walmart’s shopping AI assistant on to 3rd party platformsExpand Next Gen Commerce’s reach to net new customers and incremental traffic and GMV. Immersive content generation is a critical workstream for Sparky experiences leading to better conversion rates.Collaborating with product, business, and operations leaders to define, prioritize, and execute the product and technology roadmap, ensuring alignment with broader business objectives.Building and nurturing a world-class engineering organization, including recruiting, mentoring, and developing senior architects and engineering leaders to foster a high-performing team.Proactively identifying and addressing customer issues, ensuring continuous improvement in platform performance, reliability, and user experience.Cultivating a culture of innovation, platform thinking, and engineering excellence, driving continuous improvement in both product development and operational efficiency.

This role requires a visionary leader who can balance technical expertise with strategic business acumen, and who is passionate about shaping the future of Walmart's global eCommerce and fulfillment technologies.

What you'll bring:

Domain expertise in running large-scale systems with a strong emphasis on high availability; experience in eCommerce platforms is highly preferred.10+ years of experience managing large engineering organizations (100+ engineers), with a proven track record of leading senior engineering leaders and architects.In-depth knowledge of large-scale distributed system technologiesExceptional collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships across cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders.Proven ability to influence across functional boundaries, driving consensus and aligning diverse teams toward common goals.Demonstrated success in hiring, mentoring, and growing top-tier engineering talent—creating high-performance, high-impact teams.BS or MS degree in Computer Science (or related technical field) with 20+ years of industry experience in engineering and technology leadership.Prior experience in high-growth startups within eCommerce  —ideally with a focus on scaling and innovating fast-paced platforms.A strong bias toward innovation, with a passion for continuously evolving technology solutions and introducing new approaches to solve complex problems.Customer and seller empathy—deep understanding of both customer and seller needs, with the ability to create technology solutions that enhance the user and seller experience alike.

Minimum Qualifications...

Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 8 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
Option 2: 10 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
5 years’ supervisory experience.

Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 6 years' experience in software engineering or related area, We value candidates with a background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.
