Purpose and Mission

The U.S. Customs Specialist ensures that all imports and exports comply with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations. This role involves preparing and reviewing documentation, coordinating with brokers and freight forwarders, and maintaining compliance with trade laws and company policies.

Key Activities and Responsibilities Prepare and submit accurate import/export documentation to U.S. Customs and other government agencies. Monitor and check the correctness of the import duties and tariffs levied  (critical in the current environment of sky high tariffs under the Trump 2.0 administration) Classify goods according to the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS).  Ensure compliance with all applicable trade regulations, including CTPAT, FDA, USDA, and BIS. Coordinate with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and internal departments to ensure timely clearance of shipments. Maintain records of all customs transactions and audits. Monitor changes in trade regulations and update internal procedures accordingly. Assist in internal audits and compliance reviews. Provide training and guidance to internal teams on customs compliance. Make proposals for duty optimization (within the compliance framework), and assist in the coping with the related administrative burden when necessary (i.e. filing and monitoring of exclusions ). Skills Understanding of shipping processes, regulations, and industry practices. Strong attention to detail Proficiency in specialized logistics software Effective communication Problem-solving abilities. Previous Experience 5–10 years of experience in customs compliance or international logistics. Qualifications and Education Bachelor’s degree in International Business, Supply Chain, or related field (or equivalent experience). Knowledge of U.S. import/export regulations and HTS classification. Familiarity with ACE (Automated Commercial Environment) and other CBP systems. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities. Licensed Customs Broker (preferred).   Be bold and take the leap!
