Job Description:
The NAS Implementation & Transition SME will serve as a technical subject matter expert supporting the BNATCS program in the planning, coordination, and execution of National Airspace System (NAS) system implementations and transitions. This role will provide deep technical expertise to ensure seamless deployment of new systems, upgrades, and technologies across communications, automation, surveillance, radar, and facilities domains. The SME will collaborate closely with FAA stakeholders, engineering teams, and program leadership to mitigate risks, resolve technical challenges, and ensure operational readiness of critical NAS capabilities.
What You'll Be Doing:
Provide technical subject matter expertise on NAS systems during planning, testing, implementation, and transition phases.
Lead and support system cutover, integration, and transition-to-operations activities for BNATCS programs.
Develop and maintain implementation plans, transition strategies, risk assessments, and technical procedures.
Partner with FAA stakeholders, system engineers, and program managers to ensure readiness and compliance with FAA requirements and schedules.
Support site surveys, installation planning, and system configuration in coordination with field teams.
Provide troubleshooting expertise during system deployment and transition to minimize downtime or operational disruption.
Contribute to the development of technical documentation, standard operating procedures, and training materials for transition activities.
Perform risk analysis and mitigation planning for system implementations across NAS domains.
Ensure implementation and transition activities align with FAA standards, cybersecurity requirements, and mission-critical operational needs.
Deliver technical briefings, after-action reviews, and lessons learned to FAA leadership and program stakeholders.
What Required Skills You'll Bring:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related technical discipline. Master’s degree preferred.
Demonstrated technical expertise with at least 10+ years of experience supporting FAA NAS systems, including system implementation, deployment, or transition.
Strong knowledge of FAA operational environments, system engineering processes, and lifecycle management.
Experience developing and executing technical transition and cutover strategies for mission-critical systems.
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to resolve complex technical challenges in real time
What Desired Skills You'll Bring:
Experience supporting FAA programs under BNATCS or similar NAS modernization efforts.
Hands-on knowledge of FAA transition processes, implementation planning, and operational readiness reviews.
Background in cybersecurity requirements integration during NAS system implementations.
