The Data Specialist supports all aspects of the program and serves as a subject matter expert of Immigration data. The role will drive improvement in the program’s data quality through their knowledge of what data is critical for compliance, experiences, and operations. Though the program operates a multi-vendor model and is global in scope, this individual will ensure customers and stakeholders receive consistent and comprehensible information. The Data Specialist will also own the identification of relevant data, and development of context of that data’s place within immigration journeys. The role will also analyze business processes to develop datasets that support natural language queries.
The role will engage with Product, Technical, and Service leads to ensure the program’s data supports specific goals and its north star vision. The Data Specialist will also serve as the primary point of contact with external providers for all new data requests and to align and resolve data issues. They partner with Business Intelligence Engineers in the development of data visualization solutions and Data Engineers to enhance or correct extract, transform, and load (ETL) processes that deliver data at the right quality and timeliness to meet customer requirements. The role ensures that their deliverables meet Amazon’s data minimization and access standards.
Key job responsibilities
1. Subject Matter Expert of Immigration Data. As the SME, the role serves as the primary point of contact within Immigration, internal stakeholders, and external providers to enhance and correct data. This includes:
- Liaise with 3P providers, through bi-weekly calls and offline discussion, to understand the processes they use to generate the data to be ingested.
- Direct 3P providers as to the program’s data and file format requirements and expectations.
- Troubleshoot reported data defects to determine the root cause and own resolution.
- Provide Data Engineers with business requirements to enhance and correct ETLs.
- Advise technical partners as to the appropriate usage of program data, providing business rules and required data elements as appropriate.
2. Drive Data Integrity Initiatives
- Design and implement controls that correct defects and ensure they do not recur.
- Establish standards for data completeness, reliability, and accuracy.
3. Data Contextualization
- Identify data associated with immigration journeys and each data’s place within those journeys.
- Coordinate with regional immigration subject matter experts and external providers as required.
- Prioritize to ensure deliverables enable the maximum number of experiences in the shortest time frame.
4. Data Engagement
- Analyze business processes to design datasets that support natural language queries by persona.
- Deliver training and prompts to support in change management with consumers of the program’s data.
