Job Description
The primary role of a phlebotomist is to perform various duties, provide troubleshooting, facilitate training, and offer workflow recommendations.
ResponsibilitiesPerform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and ensure proper decontamination.Update patient information accurately.Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.Explain the venipuncture and specimen collection process clearly and courteously to patients.Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.Understand and execute all physicians' orders accurately.Match laboratory requisition forms with specimen tubes.Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as per test order requirements.Verify test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for 100% accuracy.Package specimens for transport while maintaining specimen integrity.Store specimens at required temperatures and label them appropriately.Adhere to OSHA and DEP regulations.Attend annual department training sessions.Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.Essential SkillsPhlebotomyBlood drawSpecimen collectionPhlebotomy certification1-2 years of experience in drawing blood in a hospital, doctor's office, or urgent care settingExperience with all age groupsProficiency in using straight and butterfly needlesCustomer serviceHealthcare knowledgeData entry skillsPay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
