Phlebotomist - Leesburg Job Description The primary role of a phlebotomist is to perform various duties, provide troubleshooting, facilitate training, and offer workflow recommendations. Responsibilities + Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and ensure proper decontamination. + Update patient information accurately. + Collect and store specimens according to established procedures. + Explain the venipuncture and specimen collection process clearly and courteously to patients. + Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles. + Understand and execute all physicians' orders accurately. + Match laboratory requisition forms with specimen tubes. + Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as per test order requirements. + Verify test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for 100% accuracy. + Package specimens for transport while maintaining specimen integrity. + Store specimens at required temperatures and label them appropriately. + Adhere to OSHA and DEP regulations. + Attend annual department training sessions. + Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Essential Skills + Phlebotomy + Blood draw + Specimen collection + Phlebotomy certification + 1-2 years of experience in drawing blood in a hospital, doctor's office, or urgent care setting + Experience with all age groups + Proficiency in using straight and butterfly needles + Customer service + Healthcare knowledge + Data entry skills Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
