Basic Qualifications:

Recent high school or college graduates without prior work experience must provide a letter of recommendation.

Availability for all shifts (including 2nd shift, 3rd shift, and weekend shift) is necessary. The ability to work overtime and weekends is required as schedules may vary based on operational needs; flexibility is essential.

Howmet is currently looking for a Heat Treat Technician to join our Industrial Gas Turbine (IGT) group in Hampton, Virginia. The shift hours for 3rd shift are M-F 10pm-6am (starts Sunday night). Training is 1st shift, M-F 6am-2pm.

New Hire Starting Rate: $22.24 p/hr.; After 6 months: $24.71 p/hr.

This position will receive an hourly “shift premium” of $1.00 p/hr. while assigned to an off shift.

Job Summary: The Heat Treat Technician will operate vacuum heat-treating furnaces to manufacture castings of high quality.

Essential Functions & Job Responsibilities:

Operates all vacuum furnaces including loading and unloading heat treat batches per PMS and Engineering InstructionsInterprets and maintains vacuum levels of 1 micron or less per customer requirements utilizing micron/torr gauges on furnace control panelAdjust temperature to +-10F to +-25F at a temperature range between 1000 and 2300 degreesDemonstrates ability to run furnace cycles at a minimum of 95% of department cycle standardsRead production schedule and set up according to the Heat Treat processesEnters data into company network and completes customer certification of compliance forms as necessaryPerforms maintenance and repair of furnace liners and associated equipmentDesign, develop, and implement new programs in Furnace PLC

Performs and submits completed uniformity survey in temperature measurement for all Heat Treat furnaces

Skills and Abilities:

Department certification test required with a passing score of 80 or above. The employee must certify within one year in classification and must be recertified every two years. In addition, the employee must pass a forklift licensing and retest every two years. Must acquire Hazardous Chemical Certification and Confined Space Certification.Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Deals with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
