Primary Responsibilities

HDR has an opening for a Hydropower Engineering Manager to join our Southern California (SoCal) team and be a part of our premier, industry-recognized National Hydropower Practice that ENR ranks Number 2 in the Top 10 firms providing services to owners and operators of hydropower plants.

HDR operates offices throughout California and our growing SoCal hydropower practice serves as a vital hub linking hydropower expertise and capabilities among our Resources and Water hydropower clients in SoCal, as well as leading and providing support for hydropower projects throughout California, the southwestern U.S. and nationwide. This position involves a combination of leadership, business development and operations management duties for activities led and/or supported by the SoCal Hydro BCL and hydropower team.

Primary responsibilities for this position include leading the hydropower engineering practice in the SoCal Area, leading SoCal hydropower client and business development activities, leading or supporting proposals and pursuits, serving as a PM or technical lead on projects, helping grow the local team in SoCal, and collaborating with other Areas and teams for the successful execution of SoCal hydropower projects.

Business development responsibilities include hydropower client development, management, and strategic planning execution. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to build strong partnerships by working alongside SoCal Resources and Water teams, as well as our National Hydropower Practice and Power Sector teams to develop a hydropower growth plan as well as implementing, driving and executing the plan. The Hydropower Engineering Manager will work closely with SoCal management and Power/Practice leadership on engineering business development activities including participating in proposal development as the proposal champion and/or reviewer.The Hydropower Engineering Manager is also expected to engage actively in the hydropower industry through participation in the National Hydropower Association or other hydropower or dam safety industry groups.

Operations duties include: (a) growing and managing hydro engineering and design teams within SoCal’s Resources business group, (b) coordinating activities of and among hydropower engineering staff within SoCal’s Resources and Water teams, and (c) coordinating activities of SoCal hydropower engineering staff in-concert with our National Hydropower Practice.The Hydropower Engineering Manager will participate in development of growth strategies and opportunities for the local hydropower engineering team and develop an associated multi-year hiring plan consistent with business development opportunities in hydropower and fostering client satisfaction and career growth opportunities. To maintain and enhance client satisfaction, the Hydropower Engineering Manager will provide oversight of project execution by participating in project reviews and by serving as Principal-In-Charge for projects by conducting periodic client check-in meetings. The Hydropower Engineering Manager will also serve as project manager on strategic, complex projects to maintain a strong connection to clients.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Master’s in Engineering or Business Administration a plus.

CA Professional Engineering registration (Electrical, Mechanical or Civil).15 years of relevant experience, including 10 years of hydropower, dam safety or hydropower-related experience.Actively engaged in professional or industry associations to enhance HDR technical expertise and brand.Experienced in business development and fostering, maintaining and growing meaningful and lasting client relationships.Established, positive working relationships with existing and potential hydropower clients highly desired.Demonstrated consulting business or professional services operations experience, including managing multi-discipline project teams; or demonstrated willingness and desire to engage in these aspects.Strong understanding and track record of successful project execution including management of schedule, budget and quality and monitoring client satisfaction.Solid business management skills and ability to navigate within a matrix organization.Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate.Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field 10 years of experience Committed to quality, improvement and HDR valuesMaintains a professional or engineering registration and has related technical experience
