Job Description

The hydrographic surveyor specializes in precise positioning, data acquisition, and processing in marine environments. This role involves measuring and mapping the underwater surfaces of the world and studying the morphology of the seabed. Hydrographic surveyors are expected to work in diverse environments, ranging from inland waters and rivers to ports and oceans. The work may be conducted onshore or offshore, depending on the area of specialization. The role also requires an understanding of and consideration for environmental issues.

Responsibilities

Measure and map underwater surfaces.Study the morphology of the seabed.Work in various environments including inland waters, rivers, ports, and oceans.Conduct surveys onshore or offshore as required.Consider environmental issues in all surveying activities.

Essential Skills

Technical competence in all aspects of hydrographic surveying.Proficiency in marine, hydrographic, and land surveying.Knowledge of construction and civil engineering principles.Understanding of hydrography, geomatics, and environmental science.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Diploma or certificate from a technological institute for hydrological surveyors.Undergraduate degree in civil or survey engineering.Degree in hydrography, geomatics, environmental science, or geography.Equivalent field experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Work Environment

The position involves workshare, which may include temporary assignments to projects in other offices, potentially requiring travel. Efforts are made to balance personal schedules, but travel may be unexpected and involve weekend stays. Candidates must be willing and able to travel throughout Virginia and surrounding states and work overtime as needed. The pay range for this position is $65000.00 - $100000.00/yr.
