Role Overview
We're looking for a senior-level Hydraulics Engineer to provide technical leadership and support for pipeline operations, optimization, and safety enhancements. In this role, you'll ensure the department is executing the right projects aligned with the client's strategic goals. You’ll apply your hydraulic engineering expertise to troubleshoot, analyze, and optimize pipeline systems using industry-leading tools and practices.
Key Responsibilities
Perform hydraulic analyses using modeling software (e.g., Synergi Pipeline Simulator, AFT Fathom) to identify issues, develop solutions, and provide formal recommendations.
Support operations by troubleshooting hydraulic issues and providing ongoing technical guidance.
Review and improve engineering standards and specifications.
Provide direction on the development and review of steady-state and transient hydraulic models and reports.
Participate in feasibility studies, conceptual and detailed design reviews to ensure alignment with client standards and industry regulations.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Operations, Projects, Engineering) to ensure designs are efficient, cost-effective, and reliable.
Support continuous improvement initiatives in hydraulic design and engineering processes.
Communicate technical information clearly to stakeholders at all levels.
Mentor junior engineering staff and provide leadership in technical reviews and initiatives.
Contribute to scope development, project execution, and participate in PHA, HAZOP, and other technical assessments as needed.
Qualifications
Required:
Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in hydraulic engineering, preferably in oil & gas.
Advanced knowledge of hydraulic modeling tools (Synergi Pipeline Simulator, AFT Fathom).
Working understanding of liquid pipeline and facility operations.
Registered or eligible for registration as a P.Eng. in Alberta.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to shifting demands.
Strong problem-solving, planning, and organizational skills.
Committed to ongoing technical learning and development.
Willingness to travel within Canada and the U.S.
Preferred:
Experience with risk assessment methodologies such as PHA, HAZOP, or LOPA.
Working Conditions
Primarily office-based with occasional visits to construction and operating sites.
Occasional overnight business or field trips may be required.
