Position Title HVAC & Refrigeration Mechanic Position Type Department FACILITIES PLANNING AND MGMT FLSA Non-Exempt Union/Non Union Union Full Time or Part Time Full Time Grade 9 Salary Range Hiring Salary Range $44,090-48,499/Annually Fixed Term/Tenure Track (Faculty Only) Regular or Temporary Regular Job Description Summary The HVAC & Refrigeration Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, repair, installation, and upgrade of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems in compliance with safety and regulatory standards. This role also assists in the design and layout of new or upgraded building systems and performs general maintenance plumbing tasks. Minimum Qualifications EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE High School diploma, GED or equivalent. Five years of experience in general A/C equipment maintenance and repair, or an equivalent combination of coursework, certifications, or specialized training Criteria CRITERIA: The following criteria, which are not the sole criteria used in the final hiring decision, will be used to review the applications of those persons who meet the stated minimum qualifications and to select those qualified applicants who will be interviewed. ESSENTIAL DUTIES Performs scheduled preventive maintenance services of appropriate, installed building systems, including boilers, roof fans, and air handling equipment. Diagnoses and troubleshoots HVAC and refrigeration system malfunctions, using appropriate tools and diagnostic techniques Performs emergency and routine repairs on building refrigeration and air conditioning systems, kitchen equipment, and other similar items. Installs, modifies, or upgrades HVAC and refrigeration systems as needed, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal codes Ensures all work is performed safely and in accordance with institutional policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements Accompanies outside contractor personnel during their campus visits to ensure compliance with safety, access, and work scope requirements. Maintains records of man-hours and material used in performance of duties. Assists in maintaining inventory of HVAC-related parts, tools, and materials, and initiates requests for restocking when necessary Checks the EMS computer for major system outages or decreased operation. Reviews work performed by contractors for completion Attends meetings with project managers where the HVAC or Mechanical trades are involved Performs related work as required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Working knowledge of standard practices, methods, tools, and materials. Knowledge of HVAC systems, including the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment Ability to interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics to diagnose and resolve system issues efficiently Knowledge of applicable codes, regulations, and safety standards, including OSHA, EPA, and local building codes Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues quickly Excellent customer service and communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical information Ability to work independently or as part of a team, while managing time efficiently Job Requirements PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSMust have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Significant climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping and repetitive motions may be required.OTHER REQUIREMENTS Ability to lift at least 50 lbs. Valid driver’s license without any restrictions that would prohibit applicant from college insurance coverage. Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English.
