Job Overview:
Under the direction of the department Director, the HVAC Mechanic maintains and repairs air conditioning, refrigeration and heating equipment, including but not limited to: Split A/C systems, rooftop units, walk-in refrigerators/freezers, ice machines, and electronic controls. Maintain all building functions on patient floors and patient rooms, delivers timely and efficient building services to staff, patients, and visitors. Utilizes skills to perform work as directed by a lead, manager, or director. Performs other related duties as required.

Required:
Must have completed four (4) year apprenticeship program in the HVAC/Refrigeration tradeMust be able to diagnose and correct complex HVAC systemsCompletion of an acceptable apprentice program at a vocational or technical school is required.Ability to read, comprehend, and transmit complicated and detailed instructions in order to plan and perform job duties.Must have the ability to plan, schedule & coordinate repairsMust be able to read mechanical drawingsMust have experience in operating HVAC system through a Building Management System -BMS-Scheduling Requirements
Full-Time, Evening hours.Essential Functions:
Receives work orders and following floor layouts, sketches, or oral instructions, estimates material and time required to accomplish assignedPerform and completed preventive maintenance on heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and refrigeration systemsDiagnose troubleshoot and repair complex heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and refrigeration systems in the hospital facilitiesChecks, maintains, repairs and conducts quality control and other tests on humidity pressure, heating and cooling controllers, valve and actuators, motors, steam traps, filters, refrigerators, compressors, thermostatic controls, refrigeration/air-conditioning units, freezers, condensers and all such units or supporting equipmentAbility to operate HVAC throughout BMSReads blue prints, works from manufacturer s operating manuals or applies knowledge of equipment to devise appropriate repairsUses a variety of hand tools, gauges, and testing supplies,Confers with service representative and others as necessary to accomplish installations or repairsRecommends replacements; may assist in evaluating proposed additions or replacements; prepares material list for purchase requisition for approval, assists in obtaining product information process, etcEnsures conformance to operating and record keeping standards required by hospital, department, licensing and other regulating agencies and applicable codesMay instruct hospital personnel in proper use and operation of heating/air-conditioning equipmentKnowledgeable in sheet metal fabrication and assemblyRWJBarnabas Health, our market-competitive Total Rewards package, provides comprehensive benefits and resources to support our employees’ physical, emotional, social, and financial health.
