Job Description
This role provides day-to-day HR support focusing on payroll preparation, leave administration, benefits, compliance, and employee support. The HR Generalist will report directly to the HR Manager/General Manager and play a critical role in ensuring smooth HR operations, while the company explores transitioning payroll systems from ADP Workforce Now to Paylocity or similar platforms.
Responsibilities
+ Prepare and audit semi-monthly payroll in ADP Workforce Now, ensuring accuracy of wages, accruals, vacation/sick balances, and meal/rest compliance.
+ Audit timecards for hours, meal breaks, and leave usage; follow up with managers as needed.
+ Generate payroll-related reports for management and finance.
+ Submit payroll packages for HR Manager approval prior to funding.
+ Administer and track LOAs (FMLA/CFRA, ADA/FEHA, Disability, Workers’ Compensation) from start to finish.
+ Ensure timely communication with employees and managers; maintain required documentation.
+ Act as main point of contact for employees navigating medical or personal leave.
+ Support benefits administration including open enrollment, HSA/401(k), and vendor communications.
+ Process quarterly HSA contributions and ensure 401(k) payroll contributions and company match uploads are accurate.
+ Serve as first point of contact for employee questions regarding benefits and payroll deductions.
+ Assist HR team with recruiting activities such as posting jobs, managing confidential candidate data, interview coordination, and drafting offer letters.
+ Conduct new hire onboarding, I-9/E-Verify, background checks, and orientation.
+ Audit new hire files for compliance.
+ Serve as initial point of contact for employee questions or concerns, escalating to HR Manager as needed.
+ Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive employee information with discretion.
+ Ensure HR compliance with California-specific requirements (meal/rest, wage transparency, ACA, OSHA postings, harassment prevention training).
+ Keep HR files, records, and posters up to date.
+ Generate reports and assist with audits as needed (ACA, payroll data, compliance reporting).
+ Support potential transition from ADP Workforce Now to Paylocity or similar systems.
+ Maintain accuracy across all HRIS and benefits systems.
Essential Skills
+ 3+ years in general HR experience with California experience required.
+ HRIS/payroll systems knowledge - ADP, Paylocity a plus but open to any system.
+ Strong knowledge of CA and federal HR laws/regulations (FMLA/CFRA, ADA/FEHA, ACA, wage/hour).
+ Demonstrated experience managing LOAs, benefits, and employee relations in a confidential setting.
+ Full cycle payroll for 60+ employees; mix of hourly & salary - must have CA payroll & HR experience.
+ Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
+ Experience in a manufacturing background , comfortable working with engineers and production employees.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ HR certification preferred but not required.
+ Experience interfacing with both production employees and high-level software engineers.
+ Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
+ Ability to maintain a collaborative and supportive work environment.
Work Environment
This position is based in an ITAR regulated work environment with a fluctuating workforce of 60-100 employees. The role is 100% onsite, Monday through Friday, from 8 AM to 5 PM. If transitioned to a direct hire, the schedule may shift to a 9/80 work schedule. The company values collaboration and maintaining a personable touch, with a commitment to not exceed 130 employees. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $37.00 - $41.00/hr.
