Job Description
This role offers an opportunity for a highly organized and detail-oriented Human Resources Assistant / HR Project Coordinator to support the HR Director in a fast-paced, project-driven environment. You will operate within a lean, one-person HR department, taking ownership of projects from initiation through completion while ensuring strong compliance, accurate documentation, and overall HR efficiency. This project-based position is ideal for someone who enjoys working independently, managing multiple priorities, and using technology and AI tools to streamline administrative processes and support a growing HR function.
ResponsibilitiesConduct I-9 audits and ensure all documentation is accurate, complete, and compliant with applicable regulations.Maintain, organize, and update HR records, including filing and managing physical (analog) documents and digital files.Ensure all HR documentation is accurate, up to date, and aligned with relevant policies and regulations.Support the development and formatting of professional presentations for internal use, including HR updates and initiatives.Assist in drafting and preparing clear, professional internal communications related to HR projects and processes.Manage and prioritize multiple HR-related projects simultaneously, keeping tasks on track and meeting deadlines.Utilize AI tools and other technologies to improve efficiency, automate routine tasks, and streamline administrative processes.Provide general administrative and project support to the HR Director, including data entry, clerical tasks, and document preparation.Perform data entry and maintain accurate records in spreadsheets, documents, and HR-related systems.Handle day-to-day HR administrative tasks such as filing, organizing paperwork, and maintaining orderly records.Take initiative to identify process improvements and follow through on projects from start to finish with minimal supervision.Essential SkillsStrong organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail.Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines independently.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.Experience using Google Docs and related collaboration tools.Comfort using or learning AI-based tools and technologies to enhance efficiency.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Effective presentation skills for preparing and supporting internal presentations.Demonstrated initiative and ability to take ownership of projects from start to finish.Ability to perform accurate data entry and maintain organized records.Capability to provide administrative support, including clerical tasks and filing.Additional Skills & QualificationsPrior experience in Human Resources is preferred but not required.Experience with HR administration tasks such as recordkeeping and document management.Comfort working in a lean team structure where responsibilities may be broad and varied.Strong sense of initiative and self-starting mindset, with the ability to work with limited direction.Ability to work effectively with a direct, results-oriented HR leader.Interest in gaining hands-on HR experience in a project-based role.Work Environment
This is a project-based contract role of approximately five months, supporting a growing HR function within a small, lean team in a nonprofit environment. You will work closely alongside the HR Director, who maintains a direct, results-focused, and business-oriented approach while valuing initiative and efficiency. The setting emphasizes getting things done, taking ownership, and working independently without heavy oversight. You will regularly use Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), Google Docs, and AI-based tools, while also handling physical (analog) filing and clerical tasks. The environment provides a strong opportunity to gain practical HR experience, build skills in HR administration and project coordination, and contribute meaningfully to the development of HR processes in a small-team context.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
