An EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety) Executive is responsible for ensuring a company's compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations by developing and implementing policies, conducting risk assessments, and providing employee training. Key duties include inspecting facilities, investigating incidents, managing EHS-related documentation, coordinating emergency response plans, and promoting a culture of safety throughout the organization.
Key responsibilities
Compliance and policy: Develop, implement, and enforce EHS policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and standards.
Risk management: Conduct regular risk assessments and workplace inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure safety measures and equipment are compliant.
Training and awareness: Design and deliver EHS training programs to employees and contractors to raise awareness of safety practices and emergency procedures.
Incident investigation: Lead and coordinate the investigation of all accidents, incidents, and near-misses to identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Environmental management: Manage environmental aspects such as waste, emissions, and resource conservation, and promote sustainability initiatives.
Documentation and reporting: Maintain EHS records, prepare reports for management and regulatory bodies, and manage EHS-related documentation for certifications like ISO.
Audits: Coordinate and participate in internal and external EHS audits to verify compliance and identify areas for improvement.
Qualifications
Education: A bachelor's degree or diploma in a relevant field like Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, or Engineering is often required.
Minimum 3 years working experience.
Certifications: Professional certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, or OSHA are highly valuable.
Experience: Practical experience in implementing and managing safety programs is essential. Experience with specific certifications like ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 is also beneficial.
