About the Role The DLS Case Manager (HR Assistant) serves as the dedicated, single point of contact for employees navigating all types of leave of absence and disability life events. This role provides a compassionate, structured, and compliant case management experience from start to finish. Case Managers apply expert knowledge of leave policies, disability benefits, and federal/state regulations to guide employees through complex and sensitive situations. You will manage a portfolio of 150–200 active cases, ensuring every employee receives clear communication, timely updates, and connected support throughout their entire leave journey. Key ResponsibilitiesEmployee Support & Case Ownership + Serve as the single point of contact for assigned employees throughout their leave or disability event. + Initiate and respond to inquiries about leave options, disability benefits, timelines, and required documentation. + Provide holistic case management, including reviewing medical documentation and adjudicating leaves in accordance with organizational policy, federal/state laws, and benefit plans. + Critically assess individual situations and adapt case management plans based on evolving needs. Case Management & Compliance + Manage 150–200 employee cases, maintaining accuracy, compliance, and consistency. + Leverage duration guidelines, best‑practice tools, and internal resources to oversee leave events. + Identify and resolve issues proactively, even when information is limited. + Ensure all communications and actions align with company policy and applicable regulations. + Maintain up‑to‑date and accurate system records and documentation. Communication & Stakeholder Collaboration + Communicate regular case updates verbally and in writing to employees, managers, HR partners, and other stakeholders. + Partner closely with HR, Legal, Safety, Payroll, Benefits, and third‑party administrators. + Educate managers and business partners on employee needs before leave and upon return. + Address sensitive or complex situations with professionalism and empathy. Return-to-Work Coordination + Facilitate smooth, safe, and well‑planned return‑to‑work and ramp‑back processes. + Troubleshoot barriers and ensure employees feel supported throughout their re-entry. Required Skills & Qualifications + 1+ years of experience as a case manager, including using case management systems and determining eligibility for leave/disability benefits. + 6+ years of experience may substitute for a bachelor’s degree. + 2+ years of HR or customer service experience in leave/disability can be substituted for 1+ year of case management. + Experience with MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook. + Strong customer service focus, with a commitment to delivering a high‑quality employee experience. + Excellent verbal and written communication skills. + Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage tight deadlines and shifting priorities. + Ability to adapt to changing processes and responsibilities. + High technical aptitude and ability to learn new systems quickly. + Strong critical thinking and problem‑solving skills. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Houston, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $23.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
