Description We are looking for a dedicated Housing Specialist to join our team on a contract basis in Newark, New Jersey. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with strong mathematical skills and exceptional customer service abilities to support housing programs and assist applicants effectively. The position offers an opportunity to engage with affordable housing initiatives and make a meaningful impact in the community.
Responsibilities:
• Process and evaluate housing applications to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with program requirements.
• Perform rent calculations for various housing programs, adhering to established policies and regulations.
• Provide outstanding customer service by addressing inquiries from tenants and applicants regarding applications, payments, and housing procedures.
• Maintain and update databases using Microsoft Excel and other software, while generating detailed reports as needed.
• Collaborate with team members and other departments to optimize workflows and enhance communication.
• Educate the public and stakeholders about housing programs and their benefits.
• Manage project-based waiting lists, including intake procedures, eligibility determinations, and ongoing compliance monitoring.
• Facilitate the Family Self-Sufficiency program by coordinating participants and ensuring successful program outcomes.
• Handle incoming and outgoing portability cases in accordance with HUD guidelines.
• Stay informed on industry trends and participate in training sessions to maintain up-to-date knowledge of housing regulations. Requirements
• Familiarity with HUD regulations and affordable housing programs, including Low-Income Tax Credit Housing (LITCH).
• Ability to process portability cases in alignment with HUD guidelines.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other administrative tools.
• Strong mathematical skills, including the ability to calculate rents and review financial documentation.
• Experience in managing project-based waiting lists and ensuring compliance with program policies.
• Knowledge of the Family Self-Sufficiency program and its requirements.
• Excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups.
• Strong organizational and administrative skills, including scheduling and appointment management.
