Main responsibilities:
The Yard Hostler shuttles equipment within the distribution center premises as needed. Working with another hostler, coordinate moves based on priorities directed by dispatch, shipping and receiving supervisors. Maintains a neat and orderly yard, anticipates trailer needs based on specific shifts.
Safely operate yard tractor in professional manner. Handle fast paced work environment. Ability to drive in snowy or slippery conditions, as needed. Work in areas requiring exposure to varying temperatures, extreme heat or cold, and/or wet, damp, or drafty conditions. Work varying hours of the day as required. (Days, nights, weekends, and holidays) Fuel yard tractor and refrigerated trailers. Knowledge of refrigerated trailer operations. Record, report, and maintain trailer temperatures. Maintain working trailer inventory, anticipate shift needs. Work closely with dispatch, shipping, receiving, clean out building and security to ensure all trailer needs are met. Be able to prioritize trailer requests. Have a strong commitment to safety.We are looking for candidates who possess the following:
Required:
Valid driver’s license High school diploma or equivalent Minimum 1 year of experience operating yard trucks, hostler trucks, or similar equipment Ability to safely operate heavy equipment in tight spaces Basic mechanical knowledge for performing pre-trip inspections Familiarity with DOT regulations and yard safety protocols Ability to work in varying weather conditions and shifts (including nights/weekends) Strong communication skills and ability to follow instructions Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform manual tasksPreferred:
CDL Class A or B with clean driving record Forklift certification a plus Experience in a logistics, warehouse, or freight yard environment Knowledge of trailer types (reefer, dry van, flatbed, etc.)We also provide a variety of benefits including:
