**UPMC Jameson** is excited to be hiring a **Full-time** **Histotechnologist/** **Histotechnician/** Senior **Histotechnician/Histology Trainee** to help support the histology lab! This role with be scheduled Monday through Friday varying day shifts. This role will have no on-call, no weekend or holiday responsibility. + **Histotechnician** salaries start at **$21.27/hr!** + **Senior Histotechnician** salaries start at **$22.33/hour!** + **Histotechnologist** salaries start at **$22.17/hr!** + **Histology Trainee** salary is **$18.35/hour!** ***Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title and salary based on their individual experience and education.** Histotechnologist **Responsibilities:** + Demonstrates progression of skills towards working independently in an advanced staining area. + Supports academic mission of department. + Demonstrate complete knowledge of CoPath related to Histology workflow. + Maintain instruments following quality control specifications and daily maintenance protocols. + Perform ancillary or miscellaneous tasks such as filing, cleaning, stocking supplies. + Perform QC checks at each phase of processing/ staining + Accurately prepares slides for microtomy using the barcode label in order to maintain correct patient identification throughout the process. + Process and prepare surgical and autopsy tissue specimens for embedding, cutting, staining and cover slipping. Embed and cut specialized tissue based on location including minute biopsy protocols. + Ensures all tissues are embedded and cut according to department specific protocols with proper orientation and complete sections including no folds, chatter, artifacts or floaters. Senior Histotechnician Responsibilities: + Provide independent technical leadership, consulting with the histology leadership team on unusual or complex cases. Serve as a resource to others regarding procedural and technical information. Provide ongoing training, orientation and instruction to histology team members and students. + Demonstrate complete knowledge of CoPath related to Histology workflow. + Perform QC checks at each phase of processing/ staining. + Process and prepare surgical and autopsy tissue specimens for embedding, cutting, staining and cover slipping. Embed and cut specialized tissue based on location including minute biopsy protocols. + Perform all tasks of an advance staining bench (i.e. IHC, special stains, etc.) + Accurately prepares slides for microtomy using the barcode label in order to maintain correct patient identification throughout the process. + Maintain instruments following quality control specifications and daily maintenance protocols. Perform root cause analysis on equipment failures and unexpected test results, informing the supervisor of critical failures. Coordinate equipment repair and service as necessary. + Ensures all tissues are embedded and cut according to department specific protocols with proper orientation and complete sections including no folds, chatter, artifacts or floaters. + Perform ancillary or miscellaneous tasks such as filing, cleaning, stocking supplies Histotechnologist: Successful completion of bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 30 semester hours of biology and chemistry. One year of clinical histology laboratory experience post training if not a graduate of accredited training program required. **Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:** American Society Clinical Pathology Histotechnologist- HTL (ASCP) certification required within 12 months of hire. New York License required for NY locations. + American Society for Clinical Pathology Histotechnican: + Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited HT program within the last 5 years + OR an Associate's degree or at least 60 semester hours of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 12 semester hours of biology and chemistry. + 1 year of clinical histology laboratory experience post-training with certification + OR 3 years of experience working as Histology Lab Technician or equivalent title without certification Senior Histotechnician: + Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited HT program within the last 5 years + OR an Associates degree + OR 60 semester hours of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 12 semester hours of biology and chemistry. + 2 years of clinical histology laboratory experience post-training with Histotechnician- HT (ASCP) certification is required or 3 years of experience as a Histology Lab Technician or equivalent title without certification.
