Job Description
We are seeking dedicated and skilled histotechnologists for multiple openings in a dynamic pathology-focused lab. The lab offers flexible work shifts, allowing candidates to choose from 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shifts and determine their start times. The training period lasts approximately 3 weeks and will be conducted Monday through Friday on the chosen shift, under the guidance of the department manager. This role involves cutting, staining, mounting, and studying human tissue specimens to provide data on the functions of tissues and organs, as well as the cause or progress of diseases, all while adhering to established standards and practices.
ResponsibilitiesConduct quality control and instrument check procedures, documenting all related records.Prepare and manage paraffin, reagents, and solutions based on standard formulas.Process human tissue specimens by cutting, staining, and mounting.Handle stat specimens with precision.Engage in the department's QA/PI program to enhance performance through quality improvement activities.Participate in Strategic Improvement Process activities and committee memberships as appropriate.Collaborate effectively with peers, physicians, and healthcare team members.Assume the role of Clinical Supervisor when necessary.Manage equipment and supplies, ensuring timely orders when low or near expiration.Perform preventive maintenance on image analyzer and slide maker, ensuring expired reagents are not used.Maintain ongoing records, files, and reports, contributing to test script development and system testing.Prepare required written documentation for professional and departmental purposes.Essential SkillsNY State license as either a Histology Technician or Clinical Laboratory TechnologistSpecimen processing and data entryStrong knowledge of laboratory, biology, and accessioningExperience with sample preparation and tissue cultureProficiency in pathology lab operations and lab testingAbility to handle embedding and cutting of tissue samplesAdditional Skills & QualificationsNYS Medical Laboratory Technologist LicenseExperience as a sample technician or specimen processorKnowledge of lab equipment handling and maintenanceCandidates must be reliable and dependableAttendance and punctuality are crucialRecent graduates are preferredWork Environment
The lab employs roughly 70 staff members and is equipped with up-to-date technology. The facility is a growing lab situated on Long Island with a primary focus on pathology. It offers an extensive test menu and processes over 150,000 specimens annually, making it one of the leading providers of cutting-edge FISH testing for various cancers. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $83000.00 - $114400.00/yr.
