Histotechnician Trainee

Labcorp is seeking a Histotechnician Trainee to join our team in Portland, OR.

Location: 1225 North East 2nd Avenue, Portland, OR

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
(Schedule may change upon completion of the trainee period based on department needs)

Job ResponsibilitiesAssist with processing human tissue and body fluid specimens in preparation for microscopic examinationLearn and perform technical duties related to the production of histopathological slides of surgical specimensAssist with sectioning embedded tissue using a microtome and mounting sections on microscope slidesLearn routine and special staining procedures, including H&E staining, under supervisionAssist with immunohistochemical procedures on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue sections as training progressesLearn proper orientation and embedding of surgical tissue specimensAssist with preparation of stains and reagents for routine and special proceduresSupport accurate and timely completion of work to ensure quality patient careAssist with operation and routine maintenance of manual and automated laboratory instrumentsPerform and document equipment maintenance, quality control, and preventive maintenance activities as directedAccurately complete required logs, documentation, and records in a timely mannerAdhere to the laboratory’s quality control policiesFollow laboratory SOPs for specimen handling, processing, analysis, and reportingDocument and communicate problems that may affect test performance and escalate as neededComply with all laboratory safety policies and PPE requirementsPerform other related duties as assignedMinimum QualificationsAssociate’s degree in a Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical TechnologyPreferred Qualifications1 year or more experience working in a laboratory environment1 year or more experience in a histology or pathology laboratory setting

ASCP certification

Additional Job StandardsFamiliarity with laboratory SOPs and safety protocolsExperience working in a high-volume laboratory environmentStrong attention to detail with the ability to work independently and as part of a teamHigh level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skillsWillingness to learn in a structured training environment and meet competency expectationsAble to pass a standardized color blindness testFlexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
