Histology Technician - Pathology - Days

Shift: Days (6:30a-3:00p)
Monday - Friday
No weekend or Holiday rotation.
**General Summary**
Performs a variety of technical and general duties. Functions in one or more laboratory division.
**Essential Functions:**
+ Performs a variety of routine histology techniques in concurrence with established laboratory policies and procedures
+ Supports the preparation of microscopic slides including tissue processing, paraffin block sectioning and H&E staining.
+ Produces high-quality slides from frozen or fixed tissues, including trimming, embedding, processing, sectioning using a microtome/cryostat, and staining with appropriate stains.
+ Performs equipment maintenance, reagent recycling/reclamation and efficient use of the pathology laboratory information system and specimen tracking system.
+ Enters or retrieves data from established computer files.

+ Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.
+ Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
+ Participates in educational programs and inservice meetings.
+ Maintains required records, reports, and statistics as directed.
+ Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.
**Qualifications**
**Minimum Education:**
+ High School Diploma or GED Required
**Work Experience:**
+ Less than 1 year Relevant experience. Required
+ Less than 1 year In medical field (willing to train). Preferred
**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:**
+ Good communication and computer skills.
