A Histologist is proficient in and responsible for accessioning and processing all tissue, surgical specimens, foreign bodies, orthopedic devices, and other specimens removed during surgery. Your work helps to provide a timely and accurate processing of patient specimens to support diagnosis and treatment for a variety of situations. Join our team and together, provide exceptional patient care. **A caregiver in this position works 20-25 hours per week, Monday-Friday, from 12:00PM - 5:00PM.** **Martin North Hospital will be the primary work location, but floating to Martin South and Tradition Hospitals will be required, as needed.** A caregiver who excels in this role will: + Process all cytology, biopsy and aspirate specimens received from other patient care areas. + Perform immunocytochemical stains and assist the pathologist in processing tissue for immediate frozen sections. + Arrange for submission of various tissue and gynecological specimens, which include thin preps and prepared smears to reference laboratories. + Report pertinent information to the pathologist, patient care area, or supervisor (e.g., instrument malfunctions, delay in testing, reagent or supply depletion). + Maintain cleanliness of work areas and keep work areas organized and stocked. + Follow safety procedures and utilize all safety devices and personal protective equipment per protocol. + Follow procedures and refer to procedure manuals for proper instructions when needed. + Be proficient in operating instrumentation and equipment and follow trouble-shooting procedures to correct deficiencies or problems as they occur. + Ensure instrument operations and results are reliable and perform maintenance checks, startups and/or shutdowns as assigned or as required. + Answer telephones, greet customers and provide consults and technical support to the pathologists, physicians and nursing staff. + Follow quality control policy and ensure controls are within acceptable limits before patient results are reported. Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: + High School Diploma or GED + Current license in the State of Florida at the Histology or Cytology Technologist level Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: + Associate's Degree or higher from a NACCLS approved Histotechnology program OR a Bachelor's Degree in one of the Chemical or Biological Sciences + Histotechnologist (HTL) Certification through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) + Two years of hospital experience **Physical Requirements:** + Requirement 1 + Requirement 2 **Personal Protective Equipment:** + Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required. **Pay Range** Minimum hourly: $38.80 Maximum hourly: $38.80 The pay range displayed on this job posting reflects the anticipated range for new hires.
