This role includes promoting general wellness, providing health education, and supporting disease prevention efforts. The School LPN/LVN monitors the student’s physical condition throughout the school day and refers to appropriate healthcare resources when necessary. All care is delivered in accordance with the School LPN/LVN scope of practice and in compliance with applicable state education codes. Responsibilities + Conduct initial and ongoing health assessments of students, including vital signs, physical examinations, and health history documentation. + Administer medications, injections, IV infusions, and other treatments following prescribed protocols while maintaining strict adherence to HIPAA regulations. + Manage emergency situations such as acute pain episodes, airway management needs, or injury responses with confidence and professionalism. + Collaborate with school staff to develop individualized health plans for students with chronic conditions like diabetes, epilepsy, or developmental disabilities. + Maintain accurate medical records using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) and EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems such as Epic or Cerner; ensure documentation complies with legal standards. + Provide health education and coaching to students on topics like nutrition, medication management, and wellness strategies. + Support infection control practices and assist with specimen collection/processing as needed for diagnostic evaluation. Experience + Valid state licensure as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). + Prior experience working in school health settings or pediatric care is highly preferred. + Demonstrated proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks. + Experience administering IV infusions, injections, and managing acute care situations including airway management and ventilator support. + Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, ICD coding (ICD-9/10), and medication administration protocols. + Background working with individuals with developmental disabilities or special healthcare needs is advantageous. + Familiarity with emergency medicine procedures such as triage, basic life support (BLS), and infection control standards.
