High School Program Coordinator

GENERAL SUMMARY

The High School Education Coordinator works closely with high school and adult education students and their support teams to achieve high school and/or GED completion and assists in developing and implementing a post-high school plan for their future.

CORE SCOPE OF POSITION

Partner with schools where Viejas students are enrolled in to ensure students are on track toward graduation and receiving the necessary support to be successful. Maintain appropriate release forms to obtain information as needed. Support adult learners interested in completing their high school diploma or postsecondary degree. Work closely with the Viejas Education Program Coordinator to track student’s progress to ensure students are meeting the requirements set forth by the Tribe’s Education Policies and Procedures. Provides individual counseling to guide students and parents in the areas of academics while providing updates on progress toward graduation to parents/guardians. Assists Program Coordinator to recruit, select, train, evaluate, and supervise qualified High School/GED contract tutors and instructors. Transports students to weekly meetings with their assigned teacher(s) as well as other educational activities, including GED testing and college registration, as needed. Create & facilitate incoming freshman workshops and one-on-one meetings to support a positive transition into High School. Supervise and evaluate a caseload of student internships providing guidance in learning goals and career development assignments. Provide academic support, resource navigation, coaching, mentoring services, and culturally appropriate interventions. Assist in the development and implementation of tribal educational activities and programs such as summer camps, monthly parent engagement, team lunch and learns and other activities sponsored by the Community Services Department.  Perform personalized, timely interventions focused on problem-solving, skill building, goal setting, self-advocacy, enrichment support and academic achievement. Responsible for analyzing high school student data (attendance, educational history, behaviors, performance, etc.) to serve as an advocate during school meetings (i.e. 504 and IEP). Outreach and develop relationships with community colleges, trade schools, and universities to build career and technical pathways for K-12 and post-secondary students. Coordinate College Boot Camp for graduating high school seniors and College Application workshops for juniors during the summer. Works closely with the Tribal Family Services Department for social-emotional needs Be an organizational team player with a willingness to occasionally perform other tasks outside of scope of work, as assigned, in alignment with the needs of the overall organization and the skill set of the individual holding the position.

INTERACTION

Interacts internally and externally with Tribal Members, students, parents, education administrators and outside agencies.

SUPERVISION

Supervises and trains, tutors, interns, and volunteers. Oversees and supervises students during Education Center activities, including field trips, conferences, and other Education Center sponsored/related events.
