Instructional and Classroom Management Skills and Capabilities

The ideal candidate would be skilled at teaching all components of World History curriculum to high school-aged students.  Knowledge of grade-level expected outcomes is essential. The ability to teach World History concepts at the high school level, with proficiency and confidence, will be expected. 

Seven core competencies expected of the high school teacher are:

Communication Skills: The ability to speak clearly to students, other teachers, parents, and other members of the Woodland Christian School faculty and administration is essential.

Instructional Skills: Explaining new ideas and unfamiliar concepts with confidence in a clear and concise way, so that students can understand and maintain attention during a lesson, is critical.

Writing Skills: The ability to communicate in writing to parents and students through email, letters, and report card comments is essential to the job as a high school teacher.

Patience: The students you work with will have different backgrounds and abilities. Patience is required in order to relate with students who may need behavioral redirection or have trouble following the material.

Creativity: WCHS teachers are expected find ways to involve students in the lessons, and to work with different learning styles to get the most from each student.

People Skills: Engaging parents, as well as creating healthy relationships with students and faculty will help ensure a quality-learning environment, and is expected.

Classroom Management and Effective Planning: Teachers are expected to be well planned and understand the core essential elements of managing a classroom.


Faith

Because we are a Christian school, it is important that teachers have an active faith walk; they shall actively serve and worship in a local, evangelical church whose doctrine aligns with Article II of the WCS bylaws, and be able to teach the curriculum through a Christian worldview.  The ideal candidate will be able to express and talk about their faith as it has been lived out through their life’s circumstances.


Duties and Responsibilities

The high school World History teacher will be expected to:

Plan lessons that meet the WCHS Learning Expectations using the framework provided by WCS. 

Keep grades updated and give regular feedback on work completed.

Administer tests.

Work in collaboration with other faculty members and administrators as needed

Relate effectively with parents 

Participate in additional duties such as yard supervision and professional development 

Put student growth, safety, and educational needs first in all situations




 

Requirements / Qualifications

Applicants must hold a Preliminary California Multiple Subject Credential, Single Subject Credential in History, or a Master’s degree in History, or demonstrate the ability to obtain one of these qualifications while employed in the position.
