Paracentesis duties include lab draws, starting IV's and IV infusions, specimen collection, monitoring vital signs during and after paracentesis and documentation. In hepatology, the job duties include: assisting in the evaluation of patients with liver disease, educating on treatment plans and medication management, triaging patient messages and calls, reviewing patient diagnostic tests and laboratory results for matters requiring urgent physician attention, admitting patients to the hospital, setting up procedures in Interventional Radiology and the GI lab, scheduling appointments, coordination with the pre- and post-liver transplant coordinators when needed, assisting with referrals to social work, dieticians, oncology, etc., working with patient assistance programs, obtaining insurance authorization for patient testing, participating in department Quality Improvement and research as requested, educating patients and their families on liver diseases, medications and treatments while also providing psychosocial and emotional support.
