Position:       Welder Helper

Reports to: Welding Foreman

Plant/Location: Sulphur

Basic Function:

Under the direction of the Welding Foreman the mechanic grinds girth seams, long seams, nozzle seams, and the ID radius of nozzle openings and other components used to fabricate and/or repair shell and tube heat exchangers.

Major Duties:

 

Performs grinding of weld seams, nozzle openings and parts as assigned. Sets up and performs jobs based on shop practices and procedures.  Performs assigned tasks in a safe manner, avoiding all unsafe practices.  Performs internal quality control by utilizing acceptable grinding standards.  Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

Knowledge- H.S. diploma or equivalent; or equivalent experience.  Have knowledge of grinding practices.

Skills- Must read and write the English language and have acceptable basic math skills; read and interpret simple measuring devices.

Required Tools-Hammer, adjustable wrench

Working Conditions-Cold, heat, dusty, dirty, noisy, requires 50 lbs lifting ability, work in unusual positions, exposed to fumes, be able to lift and climb, stoop, bend, reach, squat, and exposed to normal shop hazards.
