Position Summary
The McIntire School of Commerce is inviting applications for a Help Desk Technician. In this vital role, you will ensure a seamless technology experience for our faculty, staff, and students by providing first- and second-tier IT support services. You will assist with desktop, mobile, and cloud-based technology, as well as basic support for audio-visual technology and learning management systems. Additionally, you will provide non-technical guidance when necessary, such as directory assistance and lost-and-found services.
Responsibilities
Provide first- and second-tier IT support to resolve technical issues efficiently.
Support desktop, mobile, and cloud-based technologies and systems.
Assist with basic troubleshooting of audio-visual technology and learning management systems.
Route advanced support requests to appropriate teams as needed.
Provide non-technical guidance for various inquiries, including directory assistance and lost-and-found services.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, Computer Engineering, or related discipline.
Experience: At least one year of experience. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in an IT support role (significant IT support experience may be considered in lieu of a degree).
Proficiency in troubleshooting both Mac and PC computers, printers, and classroom A/V equipment.
Experience supporting remote users.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Ability to handle multiple competing priorities and multitask efficiently in a dynamic environment.
Demonstrated commitment to exceptional customer service with individuals of varying technical knowledge.
Physical Demands
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job may occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs.
Salary Range
Anticipated hiring range is $24 – $27 per hour, commensurate with education and experience.
Position Type & Work Location
Type: Non-exempt, benefited position
Work Location: Charlottesville, VA

Anticipated start date: End of July 2025.
