Job Title: Offshore Main Crane Operator
Crane Capacity: 250 – 2000 Tons
Mission:
Operate and maintain the main crane on board, ensuring all lifting operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with operational and safety procedures. Maintain ongoing communication with the bridge and Deck Foreman during all operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Lifting Operations
Operate the crane within its designed load capacity, adjusting according to derating tables and environmental conditions (weather, sea state).
Carry out lifting activities, including basket transfers where permitted and safe.
Maintain constant communication with the bridge and Deck Foreman throughout all crane operations.
Ensure full adherence to safe work procedures and lifting protocols.
Issue work instructions to Tuggerhoist Operators.
Stop any lifting activity immediately in case of safety or technical concerns.
Safety & Awareness
Hold a valid Stage 3 Offshore Crane Operator certification:
Level 2 for unsupervised inboard lifts
Level 3 for unsupervised offshore lifts
Maintain awareness of crane limits (reach and load) and potential interference with vessel equipment or other cranes.
Coordinate and avoid interference when multiple cranes are operating simultaneously.
Liaise with Bridge and 1st Assistant/Deck Foreman when lifts may impact vessel stability.
Immediately report any crane malfunctions or anomalies to the supervisor.
Maintenance & Housekeeping
Conduct daily inspections of crane cables and critical components.
Perform daily routine maintenance and ensure cleanliness of the crane and operator’s cabin.
Maintain a high standard of housekeeping in the work area.
Collaborate with the 2nd Engineer, Crane Engineer, Chief Electrician, and Vessel Equipment Engineer to ensure effective preventive maintenance and repairs.
Perform weekly crane inspections following manufacturer recommendations.
Accurately complete the crane logbook for all lifts exceeding 50 tons.
Coordination & Reporting
Collaborate with supervisors to define and refine lifting procedures.
Take instructions directly from the Deck Foreman during lifts.
Report operational and technical updates to the 1st Assistant.
Requirements:
Minimum of 5 years offshore experience, specifically in heavy lifting/construction vessels (drilling experience is not applicable).
Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Main Crane Operator handling cranes with capacities between 250 and 2000 tons.
Experience must include work on heavy lift/construction vessels with minimum crane capacity of 400 tons or more.
Stage 3 Crane Operator Certificate (mandatory).
IMCA Crane Operator Logbook or an equivalent recognized logbook.
