Description
In this role, you will play a key part in keeping Lee County’s roads, construction sites, and public spaces safe and running smoothly. You will operate heavy machinery, perform hands-on construction work, and help guide projects on complex job sites.
This position is ideal for an experienced operator who enjoys working outdoors, using a variety of equipment, mentoring others, and supporting projects that serve the community.
Duties and Responsibilities
What You Will Do
+ Operate heavy machinery such as graders, excavators, Gradall, batwing tractors, skid steers, bulldozers, backhoes, loaders, and related equipment.
+ Perform finish grading and other precision work to create smooth, level surfaces.
+ Assist with hauling equipment and materials and help set up and maintain Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) procedures.
+ Perform general labor duties including digging, raking, potholing, concrete work, landscaping, sod installation, and material handling.
+ Inspect equipment, perform basic maintenance, and troubleshoot issues as needed.
+ Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
+ Track job-related information using the asset management system.
+ Communicate clearly with supervisors, team members, and other stakeholders to complete work safely and efficiently.
+ Mentor junior operators and assist with crew supervision when the supervisor is not available.
+ Follow all safety guidelines, OSHA regulations, and industry standards at all times.
+ Switch between operating equipment and manual labor as job needs require.
+ Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education, Experience, Licensing
What We’re Looking For
+ High School Diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
+ Three (3) years of hands-on experience in construction, pipe laying/trenching, landscaping, concrete work, heavy equipment operation, or related fields.
+ Strong knowledge of construction processes, material handling, and equipment operation.
+ Ability to work outdoors in varying environmental conditions and perform physical labor.
Licensing Requirements
+ Valid Florida Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License (required for employment).
+ Acceptable driving record.
Safety-Sensitive Position
+ This is a safety-sensitive position and is subject to Drug and Alcohol Workplace Testing in accordance with DOT regulations (49 CFR Parts 40 and/or 382).
Extra Skills
+ Experience with finish grading and detailed equipment operation.
+ Strong problem-solving skills and ability to identify equipment or material issues.
+ Ability to communicate effectively and work well with a team.
+ Adaptability and attention to detail in fast-paced work environments.
Supplemental Information
Work Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM OR Tuesday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM
