We are currently seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Field Service Mechanic to join our Boart Longyear team in West Valley, Utah and on the road at job sites. The individual in this shop & field role will repair and service Boart Longyear’s light vehicles, drill rigs and industrial equipment through methods of troubleshooting & diagnosing malfunctions and failures within the hydraulic, electrical, and powertrain components. You’ll troubleshoot and get rigs and industrial equipment back online safely and quickly. Expect changing environments, hands-on problem solving, and close partnership with operations.
ResponsibilitiesPerform mobile diagnostics and repairs on drill rigs and support equipment at mine/exploration sites; complete shop-based PMs and rebuilds between deployments.Diagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems (open/closed loop), 12/24V/110v/220v electrical, drivelines, screw compressors/boosters, and duplex/triplex mud pumps.Operate and maintain a service truck and tooling; coordinate parts and logistics for remote repairs.Read and work from hydraulic/electrical schematics; use meters, laptop diagnostics, pressure/flow test equipment.Perform Preventative Maintenance, component swaps, and rebuilds (cylinders, valves, pumps); repair wiring harnesses and hoses; fluid/filter changes, fastener and torque inspections, pressure/flow tests etc.Document work in the Maintenance Management System, order parts, and communicate status to operations/maintenance.Lead safe work in all conditions (pre-starts, JHAs, LOTO, site inductions); support rig moves and rig up/down.Prep rigs for deployment and complete pre-delivery inspections; collaborate with other field techs and shop techs.Coach less-experienced techs as assigned.Own and maintain required personal tools.Maintain current MSHA/OSHA certification.Work within and promote corporate vision and values.Perform other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications3+ years as a mobile diesel/heavy equipment mechanic (mining, construction, oil & gas, aggregates, forestry, agricultural, or similar industry).Willingness to travel regionally, work outside in adverse weather conditions, and support overtime/weekend needs when projects require.Proven hydraulics and 12/24V electrical experience; comfortable working outdoors and under time pressure.Experience with screw compressors/boosters and duplex/triplex mud systems (nice to have, not required).Basic welding/fabrication a plus.High school diploma/GED; valid driver’s license; CDL a plus.OSHA-10 (or ability to obtain); MSHA training provided if needed.Own core hand tools; specialty tools, PPE, and a field service vehicle are provided for job assignments.Able to lift 50+ lbs and handle extended standing/stooping.
