JOB SUMMARY:
To learn to harden steel and heat treat aluminum parts. May be required to work with higher grade
operators while in training.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Works from shop routers, specifications and detailed instructions to heat treat and/or age a wide
variety of steel and aluminum aircraft parts. Heat treating operations include annealing, tempering
and normalizing
o Sets up and operates heat treat equipment such as generators, infraanalyzer,
atmospheric control tempering furnaces and vacuum furnaces. Inputs sequence of
events in work center console.
o Selects and positions parts in racks according to size, shape, alloy and number to be
heat treated.
o Maintains records on a variety of aircraft parts according to date, time, dew point reading,
and temperature and lot number.
• Uses precision measuring instruments such as a hardness tester and simple hand tools such as
wire cutters and operates power hand drill, power hoist, and material handling equipment such as
hand operated forklifts.
• Maintains close mental and visual attention to indicator gauges as to temperature and
atmospheric conditions in furnaces while part is being heat treated.
• Responsible for the quality of own work.
• Performs other related duties as required

EDUCATION:
Must have a high school diploma, an equivalent certificate, or a bronze level WorkKeys.
EXPERIENCE:
No experience required.
