About the Role
The Health & Medical Specialist is responsible for managing Fitness for Duty (FFD) processes, injury and illness management programs, and associated health initiatives for Chevron Australia Downstream (CAD). This role ensures compliance with global health standards, legal requirements, and evidence-based best practices while supporting workforce health, safety, and operational excellence.

Position: Health & Medical Specialist – Fitness for Duty & Injury Management
Location: Perth
Indicative Term of Contract: til April 2026

Required Qualifications/Skills: Professional registration as Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, Occupational Health Nurse, or Psychologist with at least 3 years’ post-graduate experience; OR relevant degree with 5+ years’ experience in similar roles. Proficiency in Microsoft 365, Electronic Medical Records, and Power Platform.
Major Responsibilities

Fitness for Duty (FFD) – 25% Maintain and develop FFD processes aligned with global standards, legal requirements, and best practice. Deliver FFD and Return-to-Work training for workforce and stakeholders. Execute FFD requirements for pre-employment, job transfer, periodic medicals, and return-to-work assessments. Manage Drug & Alcohol policy and program in collaboration with HR. Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for FFD, providing training and mentorship to internal teams and contractors. Coordinate Medical Suitability for Expat Assignment (MSEA) and Medical Examination Program (MEP). Partner with CMO, HR, Recruitment, and Occupational Health providers to determine personnel fitness for duty. Support psychosocial risk management, fatigue risk management, and mental health initiatives.
Illness / Injury Management – 50% Maintain Injury/Illness Management System and return-to-work programs. Act as SME for injury and illness management processes. Train and mentor personnel on injury management procedures. Coordinate workers’ compensation cases with insurers to minimize costs. Conduct regular case reviews with CMO and insurance providers. Ensure contractor injury management processes meet Chevron standards. Build relationships with local medical providers to support return-to-work programs.
Health Program – 5% Deliver presentations on health initiatives to stakeholders and workforce.
Record Keeping & Privacy – 10% Maintain confidentiality of health records in compliance with legal and corporate standards. Implement and manage Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems. Maintain tracking databases for FFD and injury/illness cases. Provide regular reports to the Chief Medical Officer on FFD, Drug & Alcohol, MESA, and injury management metrics.
Public Health & Pandemic Response – 5% Provide SME input on infectious disease management policies and processes. Assist with contact tracing and vaccination verification. Liaise with government agencies on case management and workplace safeguards. Monitor emerging health issues and assess impact on workforce. Additional Responsibilities – 5% Identify opportunities for process improvement and support business transitions. Apply Chevron decision-making processes to optimize solutions. Utilize digital tools (Microsoft 365, Power Platform) for process development and reporting. Maintain compliance with required training and competencies. Key Interfaces Chief Medical Officer HR and Recruitment Teams Contractor Occupational Health Providers Expatriate Counselor Corporate Health & Medical Occupational Hygiene Team Insurance Providers Local Medical Providers Complexity and Challenges Requires understanding of medical terminology, diagnosis, prognosis. Knowledge of OE Data Reporting Standard, OSHA regulations, and workers’ compensation legislation. Expertise in handling sensitive health data and maintaining privacy standards. Extensive use of digital technology and EMR systems.
