*Must reside in the state of Michigan Job SummaryThe Health Information Clerk provides clerical support by answering incoming phone calls, facilitating medical record requests, retrieves medical records from patient care areas and performs record processing duties such as prepping and scanning of medical records. Assists with processing birth and death certificates. Birth certificate completion only applies to the following hospitals: Cadillac, Charlevoix, Grayling and Munson Medical Center. Minimum QualificationsHigh School or GED is requiredSecondary level courses in medical or business programs are preferredOne (1) year of clerical experience preferably in healthcare is preferredWithin the first 6 months of HIM employment, successful completion of basic Medical Terminology and customer relations education (e.g. AIDET or approved nThrive course) will be required. Key Competencies and Skills Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.Basic computer skills.Experience in any of these applications is preferred: PowerChart, Kofax scanning, Electronic Birth Certificate, Dolbey transcription/dictation system.Multi-task with extreme attention to detail.Ability to work independently and as a team player. Essential DutiesUses effective customer service/interpersonal skills at all times.Answers and directs telephone calls in a polite and informative manner.Provides shift-to-shift report for oncoming clerks.Assists with training of new employees.Performs quality improvement activities as requested.May assist with sorting of U.S. mail.Birth certificate processing.Death certificate processing.Retrieves medical records from clinical areas and investigates all delayed or missing records with originating department.Performs quality checks on scanned documents in the electronic medical record.Attends meetings as scheduled and assigned. Reports ToReports to the Regional Manager of Health Information Management.
