Carteret Community College (Morehead City, NC) is proud to introduce its inaugural Women's Cross County program and is seeking an enthusiastic, student-focused Head Coach to lead this exciting new initiative.  This is a rare opportunity to build a program from the ground up, shaping a culture that prioritizes athletic achievement, academic success, and personal growth.  The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, a passion for developing runners of all skill levels, and a commitment to fostering teamwork and integrity.

Stipend:  $208 - $416 per month

The Head Women’s Cross Country Coach is responsible for the overall management, leadership, and development of the college’s NJCAA women’s cross- country program. This includes recruiting student-athletes, organizing practices and games, ensuring compliance with NJCAA rules, and fostering academic and athletic success.

Duties include: Plan, organize, and direct all phases of the cross country program. Develop and implement practice schedules, game strategies, and player development plans. Recruit and retain qualified student-athletes who meet NJCAA eligibility requirements. Maintain accurate recruiting records and submit required documentation. Ensure full compliance with NJCAA, institutional, and Region 10 rules and regulations. Complete and submit eligibility forms and maintain accurate rosters. Monitor and support the academic progress of student-athletes. Collaborate with academic advisors to promote graduation and transfer success. Manage program budget, including purchasing equipment and uniforms. Assist with fundraising activities and community engagement. Schedule games and scrimmages. Arrange team travel and lodging. Represent the College and women’s cross country program in media, community events, and NJCAA activities. Hire, train, and supervise assistant coaches and support staff. Ensure proper safety protocols and injury prevention measures. Maintain medical authorization forms and emergency procedures Attend required campus events including graduation professional development, and employee meetings. Serve on College committees and task forces as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 3–5 years of coaching experience at the collegiate or high school level, with NJCAA experience preferred. They must demonstrate strong leadership and communication skills, along with a thorough knowledge of cross country techniques, strategies, and NJCAA regulations. The candidate should have the ability to mentor student-athletes academically, athletically, and personally, while maintaining a commitment to their overall success and well-being. A proven capacity to foster a positive team culture and uphold the values of Carteret Community College is essential, as are strong organizational and time-management skills.
