Collegiate Sports The University of Olivet invites applications for a full-time Head Coach for its Men’s & Women’s Tennis programs.The University of Olivet is located in south central Michigan in the town of Olivet, MI, which is a close-knit, rural community offering quiet streets and natural surroundings, yet is not more than 30 minutes from the larger cities of Lansing and Battle Creek. Both are small enough to be friendly and large enough to boast many of the big city amenities.

Position Summary The successful candidate will possess the ability to recruit, develop, coach and manage collegiate men’s and women’s tennis programs within the standards of The University of Olivet, the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Qualifications The ideal candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree and adequate knowledge about the fundamentals and strategies of tennis obtained through previously coaching at the high school and/or college level. Must be able to be cleared to drive university vehicles. Along with the educational and sport experience, serious consideration will be given to the candidate with characteristics that coincide with the following principals: maintains and promotes the academic pursuits of The University of Olivet student-athletes; complies with and reinforces the Comet Athletic Program’s rules and mission; acts professionally and communicates appropriately with the University’s students, coaches, administration, staff, alumni and spectators; and is willing to develop professionally.

Responsibilities
1.Directs the operations of The University of Olivet Men’s & Women’s Tennis programs within the standards of The University of Olivet, the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA), the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
2.Educates/coaches student-athletes in the game of tennis.
3.Recruits prospective student-athletes according to the enrollment goals and admissions standards of The University of Olivet and the eligibility requirements of the MIAA, NCAA, and ITA.
4.Selects team members.
5.Schedules and coordinates game schedules, team tryouts, practices, meetings, individual workouts and conditioning sessions.
6.Coordinates the issuance, care, inventory and collection of equipment, uniforms and supplies for tennis. Submits appropriate equipment inventory forms to the Director of Athletics within the requested times.
7.Manages tennis budgets and coordinates fund raising activities.
8.Purchases and manages team equipment and supplies.
9.Coordinates facility usage for tennis programs.
10.Assists with home event set-up, management and clean up.
11.Assists with supervision, management, set-up and clean up at home tennis events.
12.Submits complete team roster and inventory forms to the Director of Athletics.
13.Ensures the proper completion of physical examinations and all forms relating to the examinations and emergency medical authorization before a student participates.
14.Selects and assigns duties and responsibilities to assistant coaches with the approval of the Director of Athletics.
15.Coordinates and leads one team community service project during each academic year.
16.Supervises student-athletes at all times including practices, meetings, workouts, travel and other team functions.
17.Attends all athletic department meetings and appropriate college functions (pep rallies, homecoming, Hall of Fame inductions, etc.).
18.Exhibits appropriate conduct with students, coaches, administration, staff, alumni, spectators, officials and opponents at all times.
19.Collects and submits appropriate student-athlete eligibility forms.
20.Provides leadership that promotes positive attitudes and good sportsmanship.
21.Notifies all members of the team of all Comet Athletic Program’s policies, procedures and training rules as they pertain to the team.
22.Maintains current certifications in CPR and First Aid to be held on file in the Office of Athletics.
23.Submits driving record verification for use of institutional vehicles . 24.Works within the missions and philosophies of the Comet Athletic Program and The University of Olivet.
25.Exhibits personal conduct that promotes attitudes and behaviors among student-athletes that coincide with the policies outlined in the Comet Athletic Handbook.
26.Makes decisions that positively affect the Comet Athletic Program.
27.Establishes an environment in which Comet student-athletes are encouraged to develop self-esteem and a positive self-image.
28.Maintains a proper perspective regarding the priorities of academics and athletics at The University of Olivet.
