Rosewood Matakauri is seeking a highly skilled and creative Head Pastry Chef to lead our pastry operations. This senior culinary role works alongside the Executive Chef to help design and execute refined dessert, pastry, and baking offerings that reflect the calibre of the Rosewood brand while showcasing the finest seasonal and local New Zealand produce. You will lead the pastry section with creativity, precision, and a commitment to excellence, contributing significantly to our overall dining experience.
Key ResponsibilitiesLead, develop, and execute an exceptional pastry program across breakfast, afternoon service, dinner, and special events.
Design innovative, elegant desserts and pastries that balance creativity, flavour, and presentation.
Maintain consistency and quality in line with Rosewood Matakauri’s luxury standards.
Collaborate with the Executive Chef and culinary leadership on menu development, seasonal changes, and bespoke guest experiences.
Oversee stock control, ordering, cost management, and waste minimisation within the pastry section.
Ensure strict adherence to hygiene, food safety, and kitchen organisation standards.
Requirements2-3 Years experience as a Head Pastry Chef or Senior Pastry Chef, preferably within luxury lodges, boutique hotels, or fine dining environments.
Advanced technical pastry skills with a strong eye for detail and refined presentation.
Creative mindset with a passion for innovation and seasonal, ingredient-driven desserts.
Strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and peak seasons.
