We are looking to hire a Head of Risk and Fraud Operations for Europe to lead one of the most critical functions in our growing organization. In this influential leadership role, you'll guide a collaborative team of professionals across five specialized units—from Card Acquiring, Fraud Investigations to Merchant Security—while developing strategic initiatives that directly impact SumUp's financial performance, customer trust, and market reputation. In this role, you will also lead an important transformation project to enable us to better address the evolving fraud landscape in our industry. What you’ll do  Guide the fraud prevention strategy and operational roadmaps for SumUp in Europe, ensuring comprehensive protection against chargebacks, account takeovers, and emerging fraud threats while optimizing customer experience. Lead a team of fraud specialists across five specialized units: Mentor and develop team leaders, drive operational excellence, and foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation. Lead the transformation of the organization to reduce internal handovers and deliver faster, more contextual responses to merchant victims. Ensure seamless integration of machine learning models and AI-driven tools into daily operations, working closely with our central Risk & Compliance team to evolve detection capabilities and improve scalability. Maintain strategic alignment with SumUp's business objectives while balancing fraud prevention effectiveness with merchant growth and customer satisfaction across our interconnected product ecosystem. Serve as the primary liaison with issuers, acquirers, and payment schemes to stay ahead of ecosystem changes and build positive relationships that benefit SumUp's fraud prevention capabilities. Represent SumUp's fraud prevention function in cross-team initiatives, regulatory discussions, and external industry forums, ensuring our voice is heard in shaping fraud prevention standards and practices. You’ll be great for this role if You have previous experience as a Head of Fraud Operations, Risk Management, or similar leadership role in a comparable fast-paced technology environment. You have a proven track record of leading diverse fraud prevention teams with a strong focus on operational excellence, stakeholder management, and delivery in highly dynamic, interconnected financial services organizations. You've developed different leadership approaches and use situational awareness to guide your teams through complex fraud scenarios, regulatory challenges, and organizational transformations. You have excellent communication skills enabling you to translate complex fraud risks and technical solutions into clear, actionable insights for senior management and cross-functional teams. You know how to achieve results and build consensus through collaboration, developing strong relationships with issuers, acquirers, payment schemes, and internal stakeholders across multiple teams. You strive to build an inclusive fraud operations culture based on data-driven decision making, continuous learning, and customer-centric solutions that balance risk mitigation with business growth. You have deep expertise in fraud technology trends, prevention strategies, and the regulatory landscape, with the ability to advocate for best practices and support their implementation across the organization. You're a strategic thinker who can quickly adapt to emerging fraud patterns and leverage innovative machine learning and AI technologies to enhance detection capabilities and operational efficiency. Ideally, you have previous experience in customer support, chargeback management, or merchant-facing operations.
