We are working with a Major Oil & Gas operator to source for Head of Metallurgy & Welding specialising in offshore compression. This is a long-term contract role working on a residential basis 6-days per week / 10 hours per day. Please see details below:
Title: Head of Metallurgy & Welding
Start Date: Negotiable (typically within 1 month notice)
Duration: 36 months (potential for extension)
Location: Onshore (site based)
Working Schedule: 6-days per week / 10 hours per day
Job Purpose:
Coordinate all technical quality related material science and metallurgical related efforts during the procurement of fabrication services and the procurement, design, manufacture, fabrication, delivery, installation of tangible goods and equipment for Major Projects.
Job Context & Major Challenge(s):
To successfully manage and lead a team of experienced subject matter experts in Metallurgy & Material Science, Welding, Fabrication & Inspection. Oversee technical quality, material processing, material qualification, failure investigation, root cause analysis and material testing during the procurement of services and equipment manufacturing, fabrication, delivery and installation of tangible goods to support the Project Management Team (PMT) for NFPS Venture and Major Projects. Assist NFPS Venture and Major Project PMTs by reviewing and advising on project related technical materials and fabrication-based specifications, standards, technical queries and specification deviation requests. Qualification process of new material manufacturers (mills, forging companies, casting companies, fabrication and heat treatment companies), local and worldwide material and equipment manufacturing facilities. Manage metallurgical investigations, material qualification programs, failure analysis and
mitigation. Must have an extensive knowledge of material properties, material selection processes, material manufacturing processes, fabrication processes (welding, coating), heat treatment methods, corrosion, fracture mechanics and processes, corrosion processes, corrosion mitigation and failure mechanisms. Shall be a highly
experienced and respected material scientist, fabrication and failure investigation expert, advisor and consultant. Key Accountabilities: Reports to Quality Manager. Oversee the assigned organisation, activities and systems to help eliminate any risks associated with metallurgy and welding operations within Major Projects and NFPS Project. Design and oversee material manufacturing process qualification programs of plate and pipe mills, forging companies, casting companies, fabrication yards and coating facilities. Oversee metallurgical investigation process and root cause analysis using problem solving tools. Report to Quality Manager, provide technical updates and discuss potential areas for improvement. Provide technical guidance and support to leads, engineers and technicians involved in materials selection and use. Oversee the design and development of new equipment and infrastructure. Monitor and ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations related to materials use in the oil and gas industry. Investigate/troubleshoot for quality and technical issues. Review non-conformances, technical queries, standard deviation requests and product/component issues. Design and oversee product development trials utilizing design of experiment (DoE) principles.
Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree in Sciences or Engineering.
Knowledge and/or Experience: 15 years experience in Quality in the Oil & Gas Industry, including 5 years of experience in a supervisory role, including acting roles, or oversight of service/vendor personnel. Experience in metallurgical and material science. Knowledge in fabrication, manufacturing and construction for the international energy industry. Work experience preferably with worldwide-integrated energy companies. Knowledge of Topsides, Pipeline and Subsea Valve/Manifold design, manufacture, fabrication, testing and inspection processes. Formal advanced leadership training. Material Engineering/Science & Failure Analysis training from a recognised company or institution. Certified Welding Inspector. Minimum Level II NDT Inspector training. Certified Quality Manager. Certified Lead Auditor. Certified Welding Inspector.
Technical & Business Skills: Courses in ISO9001/API Q1/AQPI Q2 Quality Management Systems, Certified ASNT IN Non-Destructive Testing, Welding Inspection. Fluent in written and spoken English. Strong analytical, leadership and facilitation skills. Strong communication and influencing skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
