About the role:
The Legal Group of American International Group, Inc. (NYSE: AIG) is seeking a Head of Legal for the UK and Talbot business in London. This position will report to the Head of International Insurance Legal and be part of the extended leadership of AIG’s Global Legal, Compliance & Regulatory organization (GLCR).
The Head of Legal, UK & Talbot’s primary role will be to partner with the Chief Executive Officers of AIG-UK and Talbot Underwriting Limited, respectively, as well as lead the London-based commercial lines legal team of lawyers and legal professionals within GLCR to support the business objectives of our company market and Lloyd’s based businesses, to ensure swift and compliant execution on the growth initiatives of the UK-based lines of business; to collaborate with the GLCR COEs, and across the functions to achieve legal and regulatory compliance on all group initiatives and objectives .
Specific Responsibilities Include:
+ Provide comprehensive legal support to the commercial lines and Lloyd’s underwriting businesses of AIG and to assist them in executing on compliant strategies to achieve their business objectives
+ Coordinate with the Centers of Expertise (COE) heads in GLCR with respect to regulatory, governance, employment, litigation, reinsurance, product underwriting, compliance, data/digital, and all other areas covered by a COE as issues in those areas arise internationally
+ Act as the main point of contact for the CEOs of AIG-UK and Talbot Underwriting Limited and the executive leadership teams on all legal matters involving the commercial lines and Lloyd’s businesses pursuant to the organizational design and division of duties across GLCR
+ Anticipate and advise on a wide variety of legal risks associated with AIG’s UK-based commercial and Lloyd’s underwriting operations
+ Oversee the UK-based legal team in delivering excellent legal support and service to their business clients
+ Select and manage outside counsel retained to support relevant business objectives
+ Coach, mentor, and develop junior lawyers in the UK-based legal team
Qualifications:
+ 12+ years of legal experience with a major international law firm or relevant in-house insurance industry experience, with a demonstrated focus on global or international insurance and reinsurance legal and regulatory issues
+ Significant hands-on experience managing and supporting business clients on global or international insurance and reinsurance legal and regulatory matters
+ Top academic credentials and excellent written and oral communications skills
+ Strong organizational and project management skills
+ Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a strong focus on collaboration
+ Proven leadership abilities
+ Experience managing diverse high functioning teams
+ Admitted and practicing member of the bar or equivalent legal qualifications, credentials, and licensure
