Job Purpose:
The Head of Business Banking will be responsible for leading the bank’s Business Banking segment in Zambia, driving sustainable growth through strategic acquisition and retention of SME and mid-sized corporate clients. The role demands a seasoned leader with strong commercial acumen, deep client relationship skills, and the ability to align the business segment with the bank’s broader strategic goals. The ideal candidate will deliver on revenue, profitability, and asset quality targets while promoting customer satisfaction and cross-functional collaboration.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and execute the Business Banking strategy to grow market share and profitability. Drive client acquisition and deepening of relationships in line with the bank’s credit appetite and policies. Expand the bank’s footprint among SMEs and mid-market businesses through effective prospecting and solution selling. Offer customized banking solutions that address client needs while ensuring compliance with regulatory and credit standards. Lead and coach Relationship Managers and Officers, fostering a high-performance culture. Monitor portfolio quality, minimize non-performing loans, and oversee risk-mitigation strategies. Enhance client experience by ensuring timely delivery of banking services and solutions Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including credit, operations, and product teams, to meet client needs. Prepare and present credit proposals to relevant credit committees. Represent the bank at external forums, client engagements, and business events to strengthen brand visibility. Ensure comprehensive client call reports and pipeline management for transparency and planning.Risk Management:
Champion a strong risk management culture across the Business Banking team. Implement effective risk identification, monitoring, and mitigation practices. Ensure prompt resolution of audit exceptions and risk issues. Promote compliance with internal controls and regulatory standards.Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
Strong communication, client engagement, and interpersonal skills. Commercially astute with solid understanding of Zambia’s SME and mid-market sectors. Deep knowledge of banking regulations, credit risk, and compliance frameworks. Leadership and team development skills with proven coaching ability. Excellent decision-making, negotiation, and analytical skills. Strong track record in strategic planning and business development.Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or equivalent in Banking, Finance, or Business is preferred. Relevant professional certifications in banking or finance are advantageous.Experience:
Minimum of 8 years of experience in the banking sector, including at least 3years in a senior role leading business or commercial banking portfolios.
