Our client is a well-established and diversified business group with operations across Real Estate, Agriculture/Farming, and Industrial Milling in Nigeria. As part of its strategic expansion within the food and agro-processing sector, the Group is seeking an experienced and hands-on Head Miller – Maize Flour Milling to lead and optimize its milling operations in Lagos.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing end-to-end maize flour milling operations, ensuring optimal plant performance, product quality, operational efficiency, and adherence to food safety standards. 

Location- Ogun State, Nigeria

Salary- NGN 2 Million – 3 Million Gross Monthly

Position Summary

The Head Miller will oversee the technical, operational, and production activities of the maize flour milling plant. The role requires a strong leader with deep practical knowledge of maize milling processes, plant operations, machine optimization, maintenance coordination, quality systems, and production planning.

The ideal candidate should possess extensive experience in maize flour milling operations within a large industrial environment and demonstrate the ability to lead production teams while maintaining high operational standards.

Key Responsibilities

Milling Operations Management

Lead and supervise all maize flour milling operations to ensure maximum plant efficiency and output. Manage daily production activities, including cleaning, conditioning, milling, packaging, and storage processes. Ensure optimal extraction rates, flour quality consistency, and minimal wastage during production. Monitor and improve milling yields, downtime reduction, and overall plant productivity. Ensure production targets and operational KPIs are consistently achieved.

Technical & Plant Management

Operate, supervise, and optimize milling equipment and processing systems. Troubleshoot operational and technical issues within the milling process. Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance activities with engineering teams. Ensure efficient machine settings, calibration, and performance monitoring. Experience with Bühler milling equipment and systems will be highly advantageous. Support plant upgrades, commissioning, and process improvement initiatives.

Quality Assurance & Food Safety

Ensure all finished products meet required quality specifications and food safety standards. Implement and maintain GMP, HACCP, and food safety compliance procedures. Work closely with Quality Assurance teams on product testing, quality control, and process audits. Ensure proper grain handling, storage, and contamination prevention practices.

Team Leadership & Training

Lead, train, and mentor milling operators, shift supervisors, and production personnel. Build a high-performance operational culture focused on safety, accountability, and continuous improvement. Conduct regular technical training and operational performance reviews. Ensure proper shift planning and manpower utilization.

Inventory & Raw Material Management

Monitor maize quality, moisture levels, and raw material utilization. Coordinate with procurement and warehouse teams to ensure adequate raw material availability. Minimize production losses and optimize material consumption.

Health, Safety & Compliance

Ensure compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and operational regulations. Promote and maintain a strong safety culture within the milling plant. Ensure all operational activities comply with Nigerian regulatory and food industry standards.

 

Requirements

Education

Degree or Diploma in Milling Technology, Food Science, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field. Professional milling certifications will be an added advantage.

Experience

Minimum 8–15 years’ experience in industrial maize flour milling operations. Proven experience as Head Miller, Chief Miller, Milling Manager, or similar leadership role. Strong practical experience in maize flour production and milling plant management. Previous experience working in large-scale flour or grain milling operations is essential.

Technical Skills

Strong knowledge of maize cleaning, conditioning, degermination, milling, and flour extraction processes. Understanding of milling plant maintenance and operational troubleshooting. Familiarity with automated milling systems and process optimization. Strong understanding of food safety and quality management systems.

Leadership Competencies

Strong leadership and people management skills. Excellent operational planning and problem-solving ability. Hands-on and results-oriented management style. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced industrial environment.
