Job Summary

The primary responsibility of this position is to organize, recruit, develop, and instruct football student-athletes in alignment with the academic mission of the University, Landmark Conference standards, and NCAA rules and regulations. In addition to coaching responsibilities, the position includes a secondary administrative duty, which will be assessed annually. This position is classified as exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Specific Responsibilities


Serve as the Head Coach of the Football program.Provide oversight of all operations and programming including coaching, training, and skill development of all student-athletes during practices and competitions.Develop and implement organized practices and game strategies. Evaluate and recruit qualified student-athletes.Facilitate the operating budget and support fundraising opportunities for the football program, including One SU and Orange and Maroon giving days and promotional activities, speaking engagements, and alumni events as requested or approved for the sports program. Develop a schedule that includes competitive regional contests and oversees team travel, equipment, and supplies.Partner with athletic administration and campus stakeholders, including Offices of Student Life, Counseling, Facilities Management, and Admission, to support the football program and student-athlete experiences and foster the academic progress and success of student-athletes including promoting and maintaining an environment that encourages academic achievement as measured by academic eligibility, retention, and graduation. Promote the physical and mental well-being of all program participants, including fostering a positive team environment, appropriate behavior, and sportsmanship by team members, assistant coaches, and staff.Develop positive rapport with athletics staff, as well as SU community.Exercise functional and administrative supervision for any assigned assistant coaches and other support staff, to include their compliance with NCAA, Conference and university rules and policies.Adhere to all NCAA and conference rules and bylaws.Fulfill secondary administrative duties or other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications


Education

Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred.

Experience

Eight (8) years of football coaching and recruiting experience required. College level experience required. Prior experience as a Head Coach preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Demonstrated knowledge of and enthusiasm for the sport of football.Knowledge and understanding of NCAA Division III rules and regulations Ability to lead with patience, confidence, energy, and enthusiasm in a student-centered environment.Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the proven ability to establish and sustain collaborative relationships with colleagues, student-athletes, and campus partners.Flexibility and adaptability to meet evolving program, institutional, and conference demands.Self-motivated and detail-oriented professional with strong organizational skills and comfort using social media platforms to support program goals.Demonstrated integrity, leadership, and commitment to ethical conduct.Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.Ability to work independently, set priorities, and exercise sound judgment, while also contributing effectively as a member of a team.Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to mentor, counsel, and advise student-athletes, and to motivate recruits, current players, and alumni in support of the football program.Demonstrated skill in identifying developmental needs of others and providing coaching, guidance, or support to foster growth and improvement.

Additional Requirements:

This position requires a valid driver's license, the ability to drive and qualify under the university's insurance carrier when driving a university and/or leased vehicle. CPR, AED and First Aid certification also is required. This role is identified as one that includes significant interaction with students and/or campus activities, and/or has oversight for disciplinary procedures. Therefore, you are considered a Campus Security Authority (CSA) and required to report any Clery Act crime disclosed to you and remain compliant with annual CSA training requirements.

Physical Demand
The position requires the ability to effectively communicate and receive detailed and time-sensitive information accurately and quickly. The position requires the ability to actively participate in on-field and off-field coaching activities, including instruction, demonstration, observation, and supervision of student-athletes during practices, training sessions, meetings, travel, and competitions. The position requires regular standing and walking for extended periods, moving across athletic fields, facilities, and campus locations, and the ability to navigate uneven terrain and stairs.

The role involves frequent bending, stooping, crouching, and reaching, as well as occasional lifting and carrying of equipment and materials weighing up to approximately 25-50 pounds. Coaching duties are performed in both indoor and outdoor environments and may involve exposure to varying weather conditions.
