HBCU Strategy Executive Director, Office of Black Affairs

Reporting to the Global Head of Office of Black Affairs, the Executive Director will be responsible for leading the development, execution, and ongoing refinement of JPMorgan Chase’s integrated, firmwide HBCU strategy. 

As the HBCU Strategy Director, you will drive innovation and collaboration across the organization, ensuring the firm’s engagement with HBCUs is strategic, impactful, and aligned with broader business objectives. You will coordinate efforts across hiring, community and employee engagement, and capacity building, leveraging data-driven frameworks and scorecards to maximize the firm’s impact and return on investment.

Job Responsibilities

Lead the centralized strategy for HBCU engagement, ensuring alignment with the firm’s business-led impact strategy and the Office of Black Affairs mission. Balance four main objectives: supporting JPMC’s balance sheet, stakeholder satisfaction and reputation building, talent strategy, and regional economic development. Develop and implement frameworks and scorecards to assess and rank HBCU partnerships based on commercial, influence, talent, and economic development metrics. Oversee the categorization of HBCUs for engagement and ensure resources are mobilized appropriately for each category. Build and maintain strong relationships with HBCU leadership, alumni, and external partners to strengthen the firm’s reputation and credibility within the HBCU ecosystem. Partner with internal stakeholders (HR, DOI, CR, LOBs) to coordinate planning, share insights, and align on strategy execution. Facilitate regular touchpoints and communication with HBCU senior leadership to set partnership expectations and measure outcomes. Work with Corporate Communications to develop and implement impact-led messaging strategies. Design and deploy a menu of engagement tactics tailored to the needs of each HBCU, including hiring initiatives, community and employee engagement, and capacity building programs. Create and manage a global playbook for HBCU engagement, enabling both firmwide consistency and regional customization. Benchmark performance against key implementation targets and goals, ensuring accountability and integration with other Advancing Black Pathways pillars. Utilize institutional health scores and market dynamics to inform engagement strategies and calibrate efforts for maximum impact. Analyze performance data to identify opportunities for improvement and to guide future strategy refinement. Promote a strong controls environment by adhering to risk/control expectations, procedures, and processes. Mitigate potential risks, including perceptions of unfair advantage and stakeholder noise, by ensuring transparency and fairness in strategy execution. Foster a culture of inclusion, innovation, and pride across the organization. Drive collaboration across pillars and teams, serving as a partner, leader, and team player.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

Compassionate and bold leader with a demonstrated commitment to advancing opportunities for the Black community. Proven experience leading large-scale, cross-functional strategies and programs in a highly matrixed organization. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic planning skills; ability to synthesize complex data and insights to inform decision-making. Executive presence and influence; skilled at engaging senior leaders, external partners, and diverse stakeholders. Experience building partnerships with educational institutions, especially HBCUs, and driving measurable impact in talent strategy, capacity building, and community engagement. Intellectually curious, digitally savvy, and able to conceptualize and communicate innovative ideas. Strong project management and execution skills; ability to manage and deliver on a portfolio of programs. Excellent collaboration skills; works well with senior-level stakeholders and across multiple teams. Passionate culture carrier with grit, tenacity, customer obsession, and a balanced focus on both strategy and execution. Proven ability to promote a strong controls environment by adhering to risk/control expectations, procedures, and processes. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required (advanced degree preferred). Moderate travel required.
