HBCU Scholars Liaison at Virginia Humanities (Staff Wage)

The Department of Virginia Humanities is seeking a Scholars Liaison. This position will report to the Virginia Humanities’ Director of Community Initiatives. This part-time position will assist in promoting the HBCU Scholars Fellowship, identifying strategic partnerships and other collaborative opportunities that build the institutional network and visibility of the program. The HBCU liaison will work with other programs and members of Virginia Humanities to facilitate the fellowship program and engage with fellows as needed.

Under the guidance of the Director of Community Initiatives, assist with ideation and planning around ways to enhance the fellowship.Execute outreach and recruitment efforts for annual cohorts.Represents the fellowship publicly at events, forums, conferences, and other related activities and venues.Travel to different regions, as needed, to support program efforts.Responsible for identifying meaningful opportunities for collaboration across organizations.Co-designs and implements strategies to expand the visibility and reach of the fellowship.Assists with evaluation and reporting, gathering feedback and data collection.Facilitates with the coordination of travel arrangements and professional development opportunities throughout the fellowship cycle.Coordinates final presentations and other events promotion and outreach, working with the Communications Team to create marketing materials and campaigns.Works with vendors, sponsors, and partners to ensure the success of events, managing contracts and partnerships.Other related duties, as assigned by the director.Collaborate with staff and volunteers to ensure smooth event operations.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor's degree required. Additional experience will be required in lieu of a degree.
Experience: Two years of experience required with a bachelor’s degree. Six years of experience required with a High School degree or equivalent.
Licensure: None.

Preferred Qualifications

Deep knowledge of HBCUs in Virginia and the greater South Atlantic region. Preferably coming into the role with relationships at HBCUs and related institutions.Excellent organizational and time-management skills.Strong communication, interpersonal, and partnership management skills.Ability to speak to groups effectively.Ability to build and sustain mutually beneficial relationships with multiple, diverse constituents.Shared vision of the fellowship’s mission and purpose.Proficient in Microsoft Office and event management software.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Creative problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to challenges.
