Job Title: Hazardous Waste Technician

Job Description

We are seeking a qualified and safety-conscious Hazardous Waste Technician to support our wastewater treatment operations. This role involves handling hazardous materials, performing routine and emergency response tasks, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. The ideal candidate will have completed the 40-hour HAZWOPER training and possess experience in wastewater systems and hazardous waste management.

Responsibilities

Operate and maintain wastewater treatment systems in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.Perform sampling, testing, and monitoring of wastewater and sludge to ensure compliance with discharge permits.Handle, transport, and dispose of hazardous materials safely and in compliance with OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.Respond to chemical spills and other hazardous material incidents using appropriate PPE and containment procedures.Maintain accurate records of inspections, incidents, and waste disposal activities.Conduct routine inspections of equipment and facilities to identify potential hazards or maintenance needs.Collaborate with environmental engineers and safety officers to improve operational safety and efficiency.Participate in emergency response drills and ongoing HAZWOPER refresher training.

Essential Skills

Completion of 40-hour HAZWOPER certification.1–3 years of experience in wastewater treatment or hazardous waste handling.Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes, safety protocols, and environmental regulations.Ability to wear and work in full PPE, including respirators and chemical protective clothing.Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required; technical training or an associate degree in environmental science, wastewater technology, or a related field preferred.

Work Environment

The position is based at a waste treatment facility, primarily working indoors.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Long Beach, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
