Santander Corporate & Investment Banking is looking for an Associate to join the GTB - Global Lending team based out of Madrid (Spain)

Overview

In this role, you will be part of the GTB department, housed within Santander CIB, who serves as the central hub for originating transaction-driven opportunities across Cash Management, Lending, Export Solutions, and Working Capital Solutions. GTB supports a broad and diverse client landscape, spanning Banking & Corporate Finance (BCF) and Multinationals and International Financial Institutions (IFI).

Within GTB, the Lending team delivers a comprehensive suite of debt solutions designed to help our clients with their working capital or Capex needs.

In this position, you will be part of the Global Lending team based out of Madrid being responsible for commercial and product plans in certain regions reporting  into the responsible for Lending within SCIB-GTB Cross Solutions. The candidate will be in charge of supporting the local origination of new transactions, the structuring and execution of deals and the different initiatives related to product development.

In addition, by being part of the cross solutions team you will be involved in strategic initiatives related to Global Transaction Banking including portfolio management, capital and liquidity optimization, innovation or sustainability.

Managing a business line within the assign geographies, being accountable for the end to end lifecycle of the product from origination to deal structuring.

Providing specialist support to Product and Coverage teams and strategic opportunities, offering expert structuring insight, market guidance, and commercially sound product recommendations and promoting new solutions.

Acting as the thought leader—combining commercial leadership, client engagement, product expertise and strategic oversight—to ensure Santander delivers a distinctive and competitive proposition.

Driving growth by identifying opportunities to expand our footprint and enhance competitiveness.

Explore all product angles (regulation, capital, liquidity…) to identify optimization initiatives that helps to reinforce and improve Santander market position.

Professional Experience

Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a structuring or origination role within a bank, consulting firm, or audit firm (required)

Strong proactive problem-solving mindset and capacity to execute on an independent manner (Required)

Strong communication skills

Education

Economics, Law, Finance, Engineering, or other related degrees. (Required)

Languages

English & Spanish (Required)

Knowledge of a third language will be positively valued- (Preferred)

Hard Skills

Background in financing structures. (Required)

Exposure to cross-border transactions and multi-jurisdictional risk (Preferred)

Cash flow modelling, financial analysis, and credit assessment of complex borrower and supply-chain structures. (Preferred)

Ability to negotiate legal documentation (security packages, intercreditor arrangements, assignment structures, etc.). (Preferred).

Experience leading multi-disciplinary deal teams and interacting with senior internal stakeholders (Coverage, Risk, Legal, Operations, and senior management) (Preferred)

Soft Skills

Excellent communications skill; strong on presentation skills; a good team worker.

Energy, determination and entrepreneurial flair; a real interest in international financing and the economic and political structure and conditions of the region.

A diplomatic but persuasive attitude when dealing with colleagues within the same organization. The reputation to enhance the Company's standing in international markets.

A team player with an international outlook and the ability to communicate easily across national boundaries, with ability to travel.

The ability to react swiftly to adverse and emergency situations, to propose solutions and ensure successful outcomes.
